Wondering if anyone else has experience the same thing I have. I'm 45 years old, 5'4" and have weighed around 120 for the past 20 years (give or take a few during my childbirth years).

Had my gallbladder removed in January and have since gained 15 pounds! I am shocked and horrified. I have since read tons online about this and have found out it is fairly common. I hate it when you go in for what is a simple surgery, doctor totally downplays the risks, side effects, then you are left wondering. Nothing was ever said to me about this and it seems it happens quite often.

How about you?

I had it in March and have lost about 20.

I had GB surgery in the early 90's and have had to struggle with my weight ever since. It seems that I gain every year no matter how active I am or how much I watch what I eat.

My mom had it a few years ago. She swears she still has to be careful about what kinds of foods she eats. She's lost weight, but just because of that.

I can honestly tell you that I have not gained one single pound. My surgery was about 9-10 years ago.

Certain types of chesse will run right through me. I always make sure that I can find a bathroom within 30 minutes of eating! I don't mind though...I can eat mozzarella sticks, grilled cheese sandwiches, and all that good stuff without gaining anything!!

I gained weight during pregnancy, BEFORE gall bladder issues.

Any weight that I have gained over the years, I firmly believe is because of my two beautiful children and the inability to stop eating sugar. :rotfl:

I lost 35 lbs, before I had my surgery. After my surgery, I barely ate anything, and the weight crept back on.
I've been rigiously exercising and dieting since last November and lost 16 lbs.

But I also am on a Hormone replacement patch for menopause, and a side effect is weight gain to the stomache area.
The older you are, your metabolism slows way down, and it is very easy to gain weight.

I had gallblabber surgery several yrs ago. Did not have weight gain.

I turn 45 in Feb. I have gained 15 lbs this past yr. It is age. You have to reduce your calories. I am struggling with that.

I am sitting at 130. I prefer to weigh 115 as I am 5'3 and tiny frame.

Have you been counting your caloric intake?

I have not and I hate to have to resort to to that! I was hoping since I had made it to 45, that I was home free and going to be a skinny mini mywhole life! Guess not.

I hear you. I was 115.

Sorry, you have to start reducing your calories. It sucks!

DH has lost 12lbs and I have lost nothing so far.:headache: Since I only need to lose a small amount of weight I have to drop my soda, no junk food, etc., etc.....

It totally blows.

I had my gallbladder out in June and have lost 12 pounds since then. I am still on a losing trend, and I am finding that my appetite is still now what it was prior to the surgery.

I have added lots of fiber to my diet to help with some of the more unpleasant side effects of the surgery, and I really think this has helped me to feel fuller and not as hungry or needing to snack as much. I do believe that this is contributing the the weight loss.

I had mine out 10 years ago. I lost a ton of weight - at least 35 pounds - because I couldn't eat for about 6 months. they took my gb out with a lap procedure but did some weird thing where they put a tube in thru my liver to remove stones from the bile ducts. The tube had to stay in for weeks afterwards - and felt like a gallstone! I was in misery for months. I pretty much have kept it off except for maybe 10 lbs.

Note: never use a general surgeon when you need a gastrosurgeon.

I had the surgery about 2 years ago and since January of 2010, I have lost 70 pounds. I don't think the surgery is to blame.
