My daughter will be able to bring a device to school next year and it seems to be encouraged. I've had good luck in the past buying used iPads, iPods etc off craigslist. Prices for the wifi galaxy on craigslist seem to be higher than the refurb at walmart for $150. Anyone seen a better deal than this? She will get this for her birthday hopefully

I've been looking at this specific tablet for quite a while because I'm planning on getting it for my dad for father's day, and the cheapest I've found so far is a refurb on Amazon for $145. Thinking I'm going to go either that route or the $150 refurb from walmart (for easier returns if need be).

I think Costco has this brand new for 179.99.

You can get it almost everywhere for $179 (brand new), but to save the $30 I figure factory refurbished would be just as good in my case.

I'll be opening it up before I give it to my dad anyway, because I'm buying it for the dslr app so he can hook it up to his camera, and need to figure out what usb cable adapter I'll need to buy to go along with it.

There's an SD card slot, but no USB port. If you want a micro USB port, you need to go with the Google Nexus 7in. Although, the screen on the Tab is an OLED, and has better colors than the LED on the nexus. There is a difference in coloring, even on just web pages.

I love my Tab and use it in classes too. There's even a blackboard app available now too if she has online classes. Not all schools have it for free though. It's $2.99 for a subscription fee.

Good point. Right now nothing is required but she can bring a device next year.

I've never used Groupon but they have the 7" factory refubs for $139.99 for the next two days. I think it may even have free shipping.

Get a good quality bluetooth keyboard as well. I have a Microsoft mobile keyboard 5000 for mine. It's slightly curved, and very comfortable for typing. The cheapies on ebay (sometimes including built in cover) are not very good, at best for finger peckers.

I use Google Drive for writing notes in class for easy access between my laptop and tablet. That way I don't have to transfer the files between the two.

I know this raises the price point (and the timing) but last year I got all 3 of my kids the student edition (as a Christmas gift.) I bought them just after Labor Day I think. The addition of the keyboard was a big part of my decision of the Galaxy.

I paid the same price as the regular model (at that time I think it was $250) but got the keyboard as part of the deal. I think the student edition was only available for about 2 weeks, and I happened to time it right.

My kids use them every day; it was a great gift!!
