We are on the July 27th, 2012 departure but are heading in to Quito 5 days early and staying at Hacienda Cusin for 3 nights, July 23 - July 26.

Hi y'all...just checking in and subscribing. We are actually taking the Highlands/Galapagos trip, but Ive already had some helpful discussions with kristilew and Zakatak on other threads, so I know many things pertain to both trips. I'll try not to add anything to confuse the trips; just lurk or add info of about general Ecuador travel that might be of interest to folks on either trip.

Ok...hope you all have fun...Zak, I'm still going to be waiting for your review before we depart, especially your pre and post adventures!

We were set to Zip Line at Mindo but cancelled it after the death of a woman at the end of May. I guess they don't have the same inspections as US zip line companies do.

So, none of that for the kids! Oh well... We'll just do the hiking and photography instead.

I think that sounds like a good idea!!!!

(I hate to ask, but how did she die? It's probably good I saw this *after* trying my first Zipline last month in Hawaii!)

Hey Zak, I did the PM thing!! Also...just for reassurance on the zip line thing...if Disney has one on their itinerary, it's been vetted. When we were in CR people were disappointed because a bridge was out and our vehicle could not get to the zip line on the itinerary. Even though there were other ziplines, ABD could not substitute, though they were happy to drop people at other places to do activities at their own risk and some did it Manual Antonio on their own. This is why I often choose ABD's...they have done that leg work!

Another thing on the zip line..while it is fun, it's not really a terrific way to see the wildlife and flora. It's more like a thrill ride, but the hanging bridges or boardwalks are a better way to see what is in the cloud forest.

This was the Mindo Ropes & Canopy. We were doing this on our own with a guide - I don't even know if ABD does Zip Lining or not (I don't think so).

So, I'd rather be safe and hike around a bit. We have a guide for the day so I'm sure he'll find something we can do!
