Galactic Starcruiser Closing

Maybe I'm out of the loop but this really surprises me. The rooms looked amazing.

Yeah, I think they will probably repurpose the structure somehow - not sure what. There are ideas though. Of course, I doubt they will invest TOO much into anything in FL at the moment....

This opened after I lost my job, so there was no way I could afford it. I never heard anyone complain about any aspect of it, except for the price. It’s too bad they couldn’t figure out a way to make it less expensive to run so they could reduce the cost to the guest.

Not surprised. It had the most expensive rooms on the property even considering the live action shows. They are probably only so many avid Star Wars fans where money is no object and likely why this failed. Never seemed like a place where people could return multiple times. Will be interesting to see how they redo it into something else.

An overpriced LARP. Not surprised at all having been going to LARPs since the 90s.

Maybe they can convert it to a Star Wars themed hotel.

Great concept, but even as a huge Star Wars fan, I was not interested in being locked in a building for 2-3 days on the “cruise”. The rooms while cool looking were a bit spartan and expensive! Where’s the 1&2 BR suites? 😝. I think it would have done better as a themed hotel.
I thought you could go down to the "planet".

Correction: Episodes 7-9, not Star Wars.

Had this been original trilogy themed, it would have been a massive hit.
LOL. While I have seen all the movies, I would not have known that. And as a Disney stockholder I think all this Star Wars...................... or Episodes 7-9 stuff was a bad investment.

Star Wars did not turn out to be as massive a draw as expected.

I don't think it was the brand, but rather it was the price tag! 😱 There are only so many people willing to pay that high of a price for a niche experience. I always heard good things about it, but it also wasn't something that would draw a ton of repeat business.

I think the other BIG issue they didn't consider is that some SW fans are not into cosplay. They want an experience, but not as an acting participant. Having fun on the sidelines, enjoying it how they see fit.

DH and DD are big SW fans, and originally I looked into it until:
1. I saw the price. Ugh, no.
2. No way would DH want to do the "mandatory fun" as Pete put it. It is too structured and forced. It is great for some, but complete opposite of what other SW fans want. It is not a one size fits all, and I think they severely overlooked the SW introverts.

It's like 30 days in but instead of a prison you have to handle excessive Star Wars.

There are castle LARPs that cost far less.

We went to GSC as DH is a massive lifelong fan and DD15 is too... Family of 4, me and DD14 along for the ride. We kinda split up into 2 teams so each kid could make all the choices. DH and DD15 had an amazing incredible experience... Like when Chewbacca gets a medal at the end of the movie and roars? They LIVED THAT MOMENT with all their new Star Wars friends!

And DD14 and I... tried to participate? But for whatever reason it kinda just passed us by? It was fun to watch as a live theater experience, but probably not worth the price tag.

Glad we did it before it's gone anyway
