I just got an email from Best Flights about a new flight sale. Plugged in our dates in Sept/Oct and if I'd had the strength to wait I could have saved a few hundred dollars. With Virgin Australia too. :headache:
Dammit!

Oh, well. I really don't think I could have held out this long.

I did the same thing today! was booking a domestic flight with Virgin for a work trip so I had a look at our dates for LA, and the adult fares are about $450 cheaper (each) than I paid in November. I have been feeling pretty good until now because the prices have been higher. But, I would be going mental if I hadn't have booked the flights when I did, I am too much of a planner.

Ummm mine were $600 cheaper after the fact :scared1:

I got a credit back from the airline.

I just checked the cost of flights from LA to Fort Lauderdale and theyre more expensive now so, factoring that in, We're only out of pocket about $350. I'm trying to persuade my self I have had $300 worth of fun planning and booking since I paid for our flights. :)

Were booked with Air NZ, sadly I don't think they'll give us a credit to fly with VA. :rotfl: I wish they would :)

I got a $600 credit per adult and $300 for child, see if there is something you can use closer to home?
Flights to NZ perhaps? Doesn't hurt to ask...

We're going to NYC as a result of our price drop (the accom will cost me as much as a firstborn though)

Lol, I remember looking to see if the taps were gold plated in our NYC hotel room, just to try to justify the cost of the room! It's a killer isn't it!

Andona
P.s. they weren't! :rotfl2:

yes, the upside of NYC? I won't be able to eat for a few days, there's 2kg gone

just checked..mine are still the same, i think maybe $5 cheaper...so happy here:thumbsup2

I don't want to look. It's done now so looking won't make me feel better. I still haven't booked alot of my internal flights but I keep checking them on Hipmunk (thanks Karen for that). I think they should get a little cheaper and more options for internal flights once I'm under the 6 month mark.

Shuttergirl, I should have followed your example and not looked! You hold strong and keep resisting the temptation.

I was thinking today that the extra cost is, after all, pretty small compared to the final cost of the trip.

I also remembered that I was able to select seats with Air NZ and you can't do that any more on a Sale fare with VA. I really, really DO like to request my seats so I'm OK with my choices.

BUT I won't be looking at any more sale fares after this :rotfl:

I have resisted the temptation to look until today. Thankfully they are approx $800 dearer for DD and myself. :thumbsup2

I just couldn't help myslef either.........thankfully ours are still much more expensive than what I paid. Plus as part of the deal, I got airfares plus 4 nights accomodation so all good:cool1:

I couldn't have waited either. I like to have things done in advance so I know I am not going to miss out.

And don't worry Andona, I am sure you will forget about it all once you are on your trip ( and checking out those gold plated taps :rotfl: )

On not being able to choose your seats on a VA sale fare, ours were on sale and had no seat choice as a condition - but the online booking process included choosing seats and when I look at my booking those seats are apparently allocated to us - so I'm not sure whether they are our seats or not!

I bought my fare in a Qantas sale and it is still cheaper than the current sale but it is the most expensive fare I have ever paid!
I am watching for a better sale and hoping a lower price will make paying the change fee worth it

I haven't got my tickets yet :crazy2:

Still waiting for a deal with either V or Qantas.

I am living on the edge

Sugarglider - or anyone else who knows...

Can you explain to me a bit about the "change fee" and how it all works?

Just looked ours are about $200 PP more. Would be surprised if they were cheaper than what we got, not impossible I know but flying from Canberra is expensive so I think we got an awesome deal. Ours were with V and I paid extra to choose seats, was only $160 for the 4 of us, even with paying that our flights were around the $1500 Canberra, Melbourne, LA.

Hi Ms. Shuttergirl. You can change the fare - it all depends on how much a fee you pay and how far in advance you do it.
I reckon Qantas will have a half decent sale by/in August - I have no idea why - I just feel it in my waters. If the sale price + change fee is cheaper than the current price I have paid it is worth it. Or it may be that I change my route to get better timings.
For Qantas, you could pay $0, $60, $80, $200 and perhaps a telephone service fee ($60 or $80) and perhaps a credit card processing fee. It all depends on the type of fare you bought ($0 for flexible fares, $200 for the ultra cheap sales).
