GAD question--what is a "copy" of a birth certificate?

I have birth certificates for my two children who don't have driver's licenses. I really don't want to bring those to FL. When the rules for GAD say original or a copy of birth certificate is acceptable for proof of child's identity, do they mean I can use my copy machine and make a copy of the original or I have to have some kind of "copy" that is official from the state.

Please tell me if you were able to use a copy machine copy of your child's certificate. I always like to hear of real experiences with the CM's rather than speculation. Thanks!

I haven't been yet (78 days:cool1:) but have been keeping up with the GAD threads. There is a forum under Theme Parks devoted to the promotion. According to all reports, and cm reports, you can make a copy yourself. That is what we are doing.

Last year's birthday promotion required a certified copy, I guess since they needed to verify the birthday. But not this year!

We used our GAD vouchers in Feb and we brought a copy of the original birth certs, which I copied myself. They just looked at them and handed them right back to me. No problems at all.

So glad I saw this, I had no idea you needed a copy of a birth cert for the kids. Can I show their passport instead???? We are going on a cruise after our stay at WDW and will have their passports with us.
TIA!

Get this....some states (WI, in particular...I have relatives there) sends a notice with an original "copy" of a birth certificate with a warning that it is illegal to photo copy a birth certificate unless it is authorized by a government agency, etc. Just a piece of info that got me thinking. Being from NY, I'm not sure if there is a similiar law.

Hmm....I just thought to bring passports, anyone know if that is acceptable????:confused3:confused3

According to the GAD site, you cannot exhange the vouchers without a government issued ID, or a copy of a BC for a child. I'll try to look it up and post what is says.

From the GAD site:

What do I need to bring to the theme park to redeem my voucher?

To redeem your ticket at a Walt Disney World® or Disneyland® theme park, you must bring a valid photo ID along with your voucher. Valid ID is one of the following: valid Government Issued Passport, valid Driver's License including a photo, or valid Government Issued Photo ID. For children under 18 who do not have any of the previous listed IDs, a copy of a Birth Certificate is acceptable. School IDs or children security IDs are not deemed Government Issued Photo IDs and will not be accepted. Please note: the Guest whose name is on the voucher must be present at the time of ticket redemption (for example, parents cannot redeem tickets for their children in their absence.)

What if I forget my child's proof of identification when I visit the theme park to redeem his or her voucher?

Unfortunately, a voucher cannot be redeemed without proof of identification for children or adults.

If the name on my voucher no longer matches my identification, how do I update my voucher?

Just bring proper documentation that shows the official name change to the name on your identification, along with your valid photo ID and voucher, to a Disney theme park at the time of redemption.

What if I don't have a printer to print my voucher?

Vouchers are accessed through your account on this site. You may print the voucher from any printer you have access to, including a friend's house or your local business center. You must have the printed voucher with you when you redeem it at a Disney theme park.

What if we forget the birth certificate? has this happened?
I have been reading the rules on this all night and from what I can gather, your child will not be given the free admission without a copy of their birth certificate. :guilty:

I actually had to order a birth certificate for my child on-line tonight and pay for expedited shipping to make sure it's here on time so I can make a copy to take with me. ($30 with shipping)

I posted this on the GAD forum earlier today, but no replies yet. Can you walk me through the process?

To those who have used GAD passes

for FPs. We will have 5 vouchers, for 5 of our 6 park days. I am trying to figure out how much time to allow for trading them in.

I know we will go to Will Call, present the voucher, that person's id (or copy of BC), and our park tickets. I'm assuming we all have to be standing there as well? So no one can hold a place in line at the turnstyles?

Do they spend a lot of time looking over everything, scan the tickets, etc. Or do they give it a quick glance and hand you the FP cards? Most days we'll be doing rope drop, so I'm assuming there will be quite a line for this!

Also, I read on the linked site that there were no guarantees for EMH. Has anyone used them for EMH? I am planning to be at MK on June 6, for just a few hours in the morning, then back to the resort to swim/nap, then back to MK for parade, fireworks, and EMH. I don't know if we'll have time to use all the FPs before regular park closing!
