So many on the forum had choosen the project Linus blanket and I wanted to give a special thanks.

My grandson 4 was hospitalized for several days. He is a huge train lover, and Thomas the Tank fan. On a particular day that his fever was shooting up and an IV had to be changed as it was swelling into the wrist it was in and painful.

After it was all over the nurse came in and gave the brave little man a special blanket, THOMAS!
I can't tell you how he smiled through that flushed face, and so weak to cuddle up with Thomas. :cloud9:

I was so overwhelmed thinking how the special people spent money for supplies and their time to provide the blankets to childrens hospitals.
From all the families that receive these gifts, it is a blessing.

They also had these great shoe box containers filled with special craft type items. Silly Putty, sticker books, crayons, monster truck etc. There is a website I can not recall what it called, I will ask my son, but they also take donations to provide these busy boxes.
As sick as he was, he found comfort. So did we.

I did some of the Jared Boxes for Lehigh Valley Hospital. They were also part of the GAD project. Here is the website

I even put in some printable activites that were Disney related. I even started stocking up on little toys to make another batch.
I know how much those little toys can mean to a little boy in the hospital. My youngest was diagnosed with a heart defect at birth. He has needed 3 open heart surgeries since then and I always took a supply of new little toys to keep him occupied. His last one was in Sept 2009, so he had his ipod and cellphone, and that kept him busy.

Thanks for posting this!
We made blankets, and it is very rewarding to hear how they do make a difference when kids need a little extra comfort. I think that is great that they were able to match the theme with your grandsonn's interests. I think sometimes we (adults) forget about howe much a familiar character or theme can comfort a child when they are stressed. THat's why we tried to choose our fabrics carefully regarding theme/design.

Most importantly, I hope your dear grandson is doing better!

Thanks! I made a Linus blanket for Disney's give a day get a day.......I'm glad your little guy was comforted by his Thomas blanket. :goodvibes
Now, I want to make some Jared boxes.......:cloud9:

Our family had a great time making Jared Boxes. I always pick up little toys and such for stocking stuffers for friends. I found Silly Putty on clearance at Staples for .50 and added them to my collection for the next set I make. I printed tic-tac-toe boards that I found on the Disign Board, laminated them and put them in the boxes with dry erase markers.

Jared Box,
That is it! Oh what a difference it made. Even when he was too sick to feel like playing he would hold a toy, or squeeze the silly putty. When going through a painfull proceedure it was a tear wiper.

Yes, the character matching was a Gem. Seeing Thomas was as special to me too.

We were at the Geisinger hospital annex and noticed how they could use some outside toys, There is a fenced in area on the roof with astro turf and so few toys with many parts missing,. I know I have a picnic table I want to take down to the one near us.

There was a well stocked indoor play room, lots of board games, videos, some DVD's.
The TV in the room had a DVD and VHS player in them too. I bet any hospital with this equipment would love a donation.
There are long hours spent with IV's breathing treatments, O2 and blood draws for many and it is a great distraction to watch a favorite video. It is not easy to run home and bring your own.

Thank you for the link for Jared Box, and for all the caring and love put into all the projects!
