Those going after the price increase who are upgrading to AP's are really getting screwed...

Prior to increase:

$300 ap with $72 off

now

$329 with $76 off

Now I'm saving $75 less than I was last week.

Hope that math made sense.

Hardly comparable. It's getting less and less affordable. Usually go several times per year, I don't think we will be able to do that anymore. It just keeps going up and up...

Sorry, just needed to rant.

This is true; however, those going last week are going for $75 less than I am in December. I do not have the option of purchasing in advance.

I feel like they are literally taking $75 out of my pocket.

Also, GAD not free for most people. We did it not only for helping others but for a discount on a very expensive family trip. I did have to purchase materials for my project which I did know going in.

Just frustrating to me...

It's a $25 difference.

I find it interesting that you see it as them taking money out of your pocket, as opposed to them putting money IN your pocket. You are getting $76. How is that "getting screwed"? I don't get it.

And personally, I believe, if you volunteered in order to get the free ticket - as opposed to helping and making a difference in the community - maybe the entire point of helping out was missed.

Maybe try to be so thankful that you are getting $76! I know I would be very excited about getting the pin/figurine set if I hadn't signed up 1 day too late.

My interpretation of the OP is that those who used their GAD earlier this year to upgrade to AP's got a better deal. They spent less out of pocket to upgrade.

I too feel frustrated about the price increase. I am going next week and am using our GAD's to upgrade myself and my 2 DD's to our first AP's. Like the OP, I will have to pay about $75 more to upgrade for the 3 tickets than I would have last month.

It is the perfect storm of price increases where they increased the Deluxe AP's by the largest percentage.

I wouldn't say I am getting screwed, but it is a disappointment to finally find a way to "afford" AP's only to come to see that the value of one of our GAD tickets has evaporated due to the price increase.

Thank you.

I'm sorry, I thought the purpose of a message board was to discuss thoughts and different points of view, not to flame others. You must be correct Disney Dreams, everyone did the GAD promo out of the goodness of their heart, not to get a discount. It's more likely that people did it for both, to help others and to help themselves afford a vacation.

I am buying 3 AP's, that is a $75 difference. Had I had an opportunity to buy in advance and still do that GAD promo, I would have certainly done that. But I can't, I have to wait until I get there, in December. And save $75 less.

I completely understand how you feel. We are in the same situation. We are upgrading to 3 passes as well and I am bummed that we have to pay the extra money.

I understand what Dreams is saying too...and I, of course, am grateful that we even got the vouchers....however, it still stinks we have to pay the higher price now!

If your "flame others" shot was aimed at me, you're way off. I was not flaming you - not my style. You were venting that you felt you were getting "screwed" and I was trying to help you view the situation in a different frame. You volunteered in your community and are saving $76 (x3 it seems) as a result of it. How great! That's $228 that someone else who didn't volunteer has to pay out of their own pocket. I see that as a great deal for you! I was trying to help you see that as well, but somehow you took it as flaming you. :confused3

My fault for trying to help you see the "up" side of your situation.

$300 - $72 = $228.00
$329 - $76 = $253.00

The way I calculate it that is only a $25.00 increase per person?

So sorry for your "loss" . . . but I still see it as a "gain"!

Yes, $25 per person... Purchasing 3, that is $75.

I am still saving money, so I do see your point. But, I knew prices were going up and I did not have any option at all to purchase prior to the increase because we can't do it until we get there. Seems as though they should have taken that into consideration.

Disney Dreamer, I felt attacked. If that was not your intention then I apologize, but that is not at all the way I took it.

I can totally see how it would be frustrating! I know that with our family trips to DL we have to budget every dollar. Finding out that you're suddenly $75 short would really sting...

Especially when you've promised your husband it would only be a certain amount and now the total is almost $100 more! :rotfl:

Ouch, that does hurt.

I guess the bright side is you do have the GAD vouchers which are now worth $228. Just think if you didn't have those? 3 DAP's would be $987! :scared1:

It does hurt in the pocketbook, that is for sure.

I wonder how many GAD vouchers are still out there unused? Makes you wonder how many others will feel this pain?

But, remember you are going to Disneyland and that in an of itself is happy! Enjoy your trip. :goodvibes

Many people buying DAP after Aug 5 will feel the pain of the $30 price increase. For those with GAD vouchers, that pain will be lessened to some extent.-- Suzanne

Yes, you are right Suzanne.

I was lucky enough to read these boards (well let's say I'm addicted to these boards) and find about the impending increase a couple weeks ago and purchased DAP for DD17 at the cheaper $299.

If I had not been so connected and aware, I too would have been out an additional $30.

So, I guess I need to be thankful....$30 = 4 caramel apples at Pooh's Corner! :thumbsup2

Money is tight all the way around for everyone these days, it is hard to budget for something and then find out that it is going to be $75 more than you thought, totally unexpected. My guess is the OP is happy to have the GAD vouchers and realizes not only their value but the value of the time he and his family given back to their community, but was unprepared for the extra out of pocket cost. Sometimes when things come unexpected it doesn't sit well with us. Not to assume what the OP is feeling, but I am sure he and his family will still enjoy their Disney Vacation and be glad they were able to give back. Again, just my thoughts, don't want to be presumptuous or anything. :)

The GAD people are not getting screwed... Everyone who is buying annual passes is getting screwed... Everyone has to pay the higher prices for AP's not just you! If you wanted to pay less $ then you should have purchased the AP's last week. Everyone knew (or suspected) a price increase was coming! Think of it this way... Instead of saving $216 now you are saving $228 for "volunteering"!

Yes, I'm sure we will still have a very magical time for sure! Just feeling frustrated as it looks like most understand, thanks to you. I do appreciate any sort of discount. The discount is just suddenly not as good.

Crazyduck, you said maybe I should have purchased last week. I would have happily done that had I had the option. You can not take advantage of your GAD vouchers until you are there. We are not going until December...

Mommy2allyandaveri - Off topic, but I knew I would find you here since you started this thread!:rotfl2:

In the December 2010 meet thread, are your DLR trip dates correct on the list of December DIS'ers?

http://www.disboards.com/showthread.php?t=2446050

I am not involved in that thread but I have glanced at it and I noticed that you posted dates on the first page, I think, which then somehow got changed on the list that everyone is adding to and updating. I wasn't sure if you told the OP of that thread to change your dates and I missed it, or if somehow they got messed up in the process of copying and recopying the list.

Anyway, it's not a big deal but I had just been wondering how your dates got changed!
