GAC Question

So we are going to the Kingdom June 20th for a week. Grandma, Grandpa, and 5 year old Granddaughter. Grandama has an ECV scooter that she will be using. I am stuck walking because of the granddaughter, normally I would be using a scooter as well. I have problems standing for a long period of time, so I am resorting to a GAC. My question is what kind should I ask for. We could use alternate entrances with no problem. After 30 minutes of being on my feet, it's time for Pops to set down and give the "ole dawgs" a rest. Not looking to cut lines but make it so I am using my "feet time" to the best. Any suggestions on how to ask and what to ask for?

Unfortunately you will have a problem. The normal and official answer for anything having to do with mobility and/or stamina is the suggestion that a wheelchair or ECV be rented. As you are probably aware, most of the attraction queues are mainstreamed and do not have an alternate entrance or waiting area. Some of the queues are very long, even an excess of 1/4 mile for both entrance and exit. And once around the World Showcase Lagoon Promendare is over 1¼ miles.

How well behaved is your granddaughter? If she is a fairly calm and not prone to running off you may be able to do it with the ECV's, if you can drive one handed.

I went with my daughter when she was about that age and I just drove with one hand and held her hand with my other one. She was very good at staying right next to the scooter and never runs off. We avoided the massive crowds, like at the end of the night, so we wouldn't get separated.

I would also recommend that you have a very good touring plan. Check out the Tour Guide Mike service, or touringplans.com and I think maybe Ride Max. If you get to the parks early -- as soon as they open-- you can do a lot of rides with shorter lines the first 3 hours or so, and do the most popular rides first.

A GAC will not shorten the distance you walk, nor will it help with character lines, stores, shows (you have to stand to wait for the next show no matter what), restaurant, parades, fireworks, buses, or anything at water parks or resorts.

If you cannot walk or stand long enough to do Disney, you should rent a wheelchair or scooter. There are no more alternate entrances for most rides, as almost all are mainstreamed for wheelchairs, so I do not think a GAC will help you at all.

1. Is it possible for you and grandma to swap off?
2. Would heaving a stroller to lean on help--get one for your granddaughter. You could also get one of those handy collapsable seats and put it in on the stroller to maybe have in line or for shows/parade outside.
3. FYI: my grandson has been walking beside mine since he was 3. Takes some getting used to and you travel a bit slow but doable.
