I have a very weak immune system right now from the Cushing's and all the steroids. I catch just about everything. I have had my seasonal flu shot and I just got my H1N1 shot today (it was the earliest I could get it...).

I am leaving Sunday for 5 days at Disneyland (and a trip to see my specialists).

I will be renting an ECV from offsite which will offer a small buffer from the crowds and keep me from touching railings, etc.

Is it acceptable for me to ask for a GAC for an alternate waiting location so that I am not crammed in a line with tons of people? If I get sick down there, at best I would have to stay an extra week or so (I recover very slowly), at worst I could end up in the hospital.

I have no problem waiting my turn and will be using fastpasses when I can. It's been about 18 years since I was last at Disneyland and I haven't used an ECV on any of my previous trips, so I'm still not sure how that's going to work, just trying to get my ducks in a row before I leave.

I've got clorox wipes up the yin yang and will be wiping down my seat on the airplane, etc. I know I can't prevent all germ transmission, that's not possible, but anything I can do to cut down the risk would be awesome!

Thanks!

I you can tolerate it I would think a good quality medical mask would be the best, even if you were away from people during the wait you are still going to be in close or enclosed environment with others at many attractions.

Keep in mind that the GAC doesn't work for transportation or restaurants, so you would be in contact with the same population in these two instances.

Thanks guys. I guess I'll just take my chances and let the chips fall where they may. I figured in a restaurant, they're not on top of me breathing directly on me and I won't be using transportation because I'll be at the Paradise Pier Hotel, so I'll just drive my ECV wherever I need to go unless I hop on the monorail once in awhile during the slow times. Hopefully the ECV will create enough of a buffer zone...

For DL specifically, I think the problem will be that they don't have what you are asking for because of space considerations for most attractions.
It certainly is something to ask for, but I'm not sure they actually have the means to provide it. For droplet transmission of germs (one of the major ways that things like flu are spread) a 3 to 6 foot distance is sufficient to have the germs fall to the ground before getting to you. If you have other people in your party, they can help be additional buffers for you ( just being on the ECV will provide a good part of your buffer, as you mentioned).
If you decide to wear a mask, I would save it for those times when the buffer is small. Masks are hard to get ahold of right now - healthcare facilities are on allocation for them. You may find an acceptable mask at a hardware/home provement store. They are basically the same masks, just packaged differently.
Masks do bring their own set of problems - they are hot and uncomfortable and many people find it difficult to breath thru one for long periods. If you are reusing the mask, you also need to make sure that tnegerms on the outside of the mask don't get moved to the inside with your fingers or by touching the surface of your storage bag. Keep in mind that the germs need to get into your body to cause an infection and that one of the main ways is when we carry germs to our own eyes, nose or mouth with our fingers.
For counter service restaurants, my suggestion would be for you to have companions order for you if possible while you wait at a table if It is busy. That would minimize your time without a buffer.

Also, there will be times when the seating for shows pits you close to others, so you need to think of how you will avoid that. At WDW, the wheelchair/ECV seating is mostly at the back and is back several feet from the rows if seats. If it is also that way at DL it may not beuch problem.

Thank you Sue!

This is a solo trip except for one day where a friend will be joining me.

I'm going to have to strap my hands to my sides to keep from touching my face. It's a nervous habit. I'll have to expiriment with my anxiety pills to see if that helps cut down on that.

If people get to close, I'll just mysteriously hit the back up throttle. By mistake of course... :moped: I guarantee I'll have all the space that's needed then! :lmao:

I think a mask may end up being more trouble than they're worth for the 5 days, especially if I'm taking them off and on. It was a good idea though. Maybe for the plane. :thumbsup2

I know Fantasmic will be packed on Sunday, but I'll be in the ECV parking, so hopefully it'll be a little better. I'm not sure about the rest of the shows. I always have the option to drive right out the other door if I don't feel comfortable, so I'll just keep that in the back of my mind.

I've decided that I don't have to do everything. If I miss something, I miss something and I won't worry about it.
