We're driving to WDW in Oct and are looking to stay overnight somewhere around Savannah, GA down to the FL border. Anyone have a favorite hotel/motel they would recommend?

Many thanks in advance! :worship:

In the Savannah area, I would recommend exit 104. Several hotel choices, but we like the Four Points by Sheraton there. Maybe 1/4 mile off the exit. Also, it's part of the spg program, in case you are Starwoods members.

We just stayed last week at the Fairfield Inn - Savannah/I-95 South at exit 94. Almost every major chain has hotels at this interchange and the hotel has a Cracker Barrel on one side of it's parking lot and a Houlihans on the other plus there are lots of other food choices in the area of the hotel. The hotel had free breakfast too and a nice workout room and indoor pool/jacuzzi. It was $79 plus taxes for a room with two queens and a couch that pulled out.

Another area further south in GA that has lots of hotels is around Brunswick - that is about an hour further south from Savannah. Just north of Savannah about 20 minutes is Hardeeville, SC which is also loaded with easy on/easy off exits with lots of hotel choices.

stayed at the Springhill Suites (Marriot) last Monday night. Coffee, juice & cookies available in the lobby all night, very nice free hot breakfast in the AM, clean and $89 for 2 queens & a sofabed (we did not use).

We are gonna try St. Simons, Ga. though. Never been, found a cute inn right near the lighthouse there so we figure we'd give that a try. I will let you know how it goes. (It is definitely NOT right off the highway though, we are treating this more like a mini trip before our trip vs. just a quick layover. We head down next Friday, stay the day, check out the sights, and leave the next morning after breakfast.) It is off-the-beaten path/highway , but it saves us from driving 11 hours straight.

If I forget to respond after we get back, email me/message me on here to remind me.;)

Oh, here it is if you're interested:

We love St. Simons Island. It is a great little area. My DW and I got married at the lighthouse in the gazebo. The inn you are staying at is within walking distance to the lighthouse, the pier and the village which has some great restaurants and great little shops there too. I hope you enjoy.

We went to DW in Sept 2010 and did stay a night both going and coming back...We really liked St. Simon's Inn! We stayed in two different rooms, both were pretty nice. The second room did have a couple of problems- the shower head wasn't seated properly and didn't work, but my husband fixed it...also the room smelled funky at first. However, they did attend to the smell ASAP (hadn't been used in a while so they just flushed the lines with some Pinesol or something) and the smell disappeared rather quickly. The shower problem we didn't discover until the next morning, but I am sure they would have fixed that right away had my husband not figured it out.

There is a really nice park downtown if you have kids that stays lit at night. The lighthouse is, of course, right there although we just walked around it. There is a restaurant with really good food there, "Iguana's". We all enjoyed our meals (2 adults, 2 kids). I can't remember what I had but I know it was good! My husband had seafood and said it was some of the best we've ever had! (and we've eated A LOT of seafood). ;) There are several restaurants within easy walking distance.

Also, try the water in the lobby of the inn....At the time they had iced cucumber water that we all just loved! We liked the area so much that my husband and I hope to go there for a short trip by ourselves one day. :)

Sleep Inn Suites/Brunswick, GA...new (no frills) hotel with free continental breakfast. We stayed there in June for $63/night. We just needed a safe, clean place to sleep and it was perfect! :goodvibes
