hi all,

firstly, this is not be being judgmental or anything, people should be able to live their one and only life in whichever way makes them happy, no question.

BUT, I was wandering if anyone else thinks the G & L board is a little out of place on here. I cant really see why there should be a special board for G & L, why not just post on all the other boards, US or UK community or planning or whatever else.

Looking at it from a slightly different angle, why is there not a Black Community?

Just seems a little out of place and I am assuming there must be the odd person who thinks this.

Honestly on my life there is no offence meant here at all, I was just curious (NO!, not that, you know what I mean)

Cheers

Steve

IMO it is a great addition to the boards. Since there are Gay and Lesbian weekends at WDW it gives people a chance to arrange meets, talk about upcoming events etc.

Hi Florence

Thanks for posting, thought I was going to get run out of town. Its a fair point you have, but whay does it have to be singled out, whay cant it just be part of 'planning your trip' or similar. As I said there is no Black Community, so it seems a little odd, surely everyone should either have their own board, Black, White, Spanish, Gay, Lesbian etc.... or eveyone use the one?

Not out of place at all. There are many groups of people who enjoy Disney. There's even a board, here on the DIS, for "Solo and Adult Travelers".

Steve ~ Personally I would bever do that. All that you are doing is expressing your opinions.

I've always thought that the reason we have a Gay and Lesbian Board is not only there was obviously a demand for it. But because there are Gay Weekends at Disney. I'm sure if there were Black, Spanish etc. Weekends at Disney, and the demand on the Boards called for it, that these boards would also be considered.

Just my thoughts.

I agree with Florence, i think as there are the Gay and Lesbian Weekends its an ideal place for people to arrange meets and talk about events etc.

That being said im sure most of them use the other boards aswell, like us we have a UK board but many of us post on the other ones too! Its not about being singled out IMO.

Hi Bicker,

Yes, but they are issues that genuinly cause problems when travelling, solo travellers I mean, but the G&L doesnt, who cares what your preference is, I thought the idea was that it doesnt matter who you are.

I can see the logic in the solo traveller ones, but not the G&L

Thanks for contributing anyway.

Cheers

Hi Florence and Laura, me again

Fair point, just seems that in this mad PC world in which we live, people who are G&L I would have thought would have just wanted to live their lives like the rest, not with any special considerations.

I mean, can you imagine, if there was a White Community thread on here but no Black, there would be hell raised.

Steve

I guess you could say the same about the UK boards though - why have them? We could all just use the US ones (as I also do). But we do have UK boards for many reasons, and I am sure there are many reasons for all the other boards.

It's about providing an area for a "community" of people to enjoy.

This is why I like the diversity of the Dis. Lots for everyone.

Couldn't agree more. Well said :thumbsup2

I have many gay and lesbian friends and lots of them tell me about specific difficulties they encounter on holiday, the classic one being when the hotel mistakenly assumes that two men or women sharing a room want single beds instead of a double. In that sense at least it makes a lot of sense having a seperate planning board for them as they will have different problems to many of us, in the same way that a family with a small child will have different issues arising to an elederly couple.
