Not sure if this info will help or not, but wanted to let you know.

As you know, once your wedding is said and done, Disney will pay you back your deposit, less any extra charges.

Here is the info you might want to know...

If you pay with a check for your deposit, and then pay the wedding off with a credit card... Disney automatically will send back any money due to the credit card (or the way you paid your final payment). Now, you can change that, but you have to let you EM know right away.

I thought this was interesting b/c my parents paid the deposit with a check a yr ago, and then made the final wedding payment on their credit card (to earn miles). They paid off their credit card immediately after paying Disney and now they just got approx. $1500 credit sent to their credit card. We were expecting atleast the $1000 deposit to be sent back by check.

I just didnt know if this would help anyone!

Yes, the deposit is applied to your wedding. If your wedding comes in under the estimated budget (for example, perhaps your bar costs are less than estimated), then Disney credits you that amount after the wedding. If you pay for the wedding via credit card, they credit the amount back to the card, not by check. If you want to be credited any amount that your wedding comes in under budget by check instead of credit card, you have to let your EM know in advance.

Our deposit was not put towards our wedding. The only way it would be put towards the wedding, is if we added stuff after our final payment was taken. We got our final estimated budget one month before the wedding, which is when we paid it. If after that time, we added or made any changes, after the wedding they would calculate how much of your deposit you get back.

When you receive your final estimated budget, your total does not and will not reflect your deposit given. You still need to pay that total even though they have your deposit... This is the info we were told, and we got married just less then 2 weeks ago.

Basically your deposit is held by FTW until after your event is complete and is not listed as money paid towards your final budget. You will receive a final budget, which is actually just an estimate (for example $10,000) and you pay that money upfront before the event separate from your deposit. The deposit money is held by FTW until after the event billing is complete (which is after your wedding and reception is over). If for any reason you ended up over budget (ex: bar tab exceeded your budget estimate or you add something at the last minute, or you break or damage Disney property, etc..), they take the money from the deposit and send you the remainder - so you should not be billed for any additional charges after the wedding unless the charge exceeds your deposit $.
We actually had our deposit applied as part of our payment because FTW did not do the billing to our credit card properly. Since they made the error and it was a couple days prior to the event they applied the deposit money so that there was some payment listed while they re-processed our real payment. However, we did then run the risk of being billed after our wedding - but luckily we got a refund because we had our bar "billed on consumption" and budgeted too much!
We received our refund by check (even though we paid for our wedding by credit card). It arrived about 3 weeks after the wedding along with our final itemized statement of charges (which was very detailed).
