This article was in Crain's Chicago Business May 2, 2005 issue.

"United Airlines is charging $2 for each bag checked curbside, in lieu of tipping skycaps, under a program being tested at Midway Airport and a handful of other locations. The airline, in a message to employees Friday, says the initiative helps cover the cost of running curbside stations and ends confusion over how much to tip."

Still don't understand the logic of this. So how do the skycaps make their money when this starts?

So I would have to pay $2 for each bag along with any tip. I guess I will be checking in at the kiosk inside now. I have been tipping all along so don't understand what the extra $2 gets me. I already check in online.

I know, I thought the same thing. I pretty much always tip $2 a bag, so to me it seems like a way to take part of the skycaps tips to supplement their operational costs. I don't know but I'll be checking in, inside also if this is ever implemented at O'hare.
