FYI on new airport security procedures...

- Starting next week, all airline passengers must take off their jackets before passing through metal detectors and more will be subjected to pat-down searches and checks for explosives

I have had this done to me at checkppoints for the past few years, I guess they are making part of the national plan

When I flew in April, they had me take my jacket off. I didn't realize it wasn't the norm (since it was my first time on a plane in 8 years). Personally, I'm all for it. Thanks for the heads up.

Try the security screeners test just to the right of the story. I found all the threats, but has a couple of false alarms.

Taking my coat off doesn't bother me at all...

I just hope I don't get stopped for having a weighted bookmark like that poor woman. :( THAT is over the top, IMO.

But pat downs for coats, or removing coats, I'm all for.

I too thought removing jackets was already required. They have been asking folks to do this in Minneapolis forever! We always have to put the jacket through the X-ray along with our carryon and purses etc.

We always try to save room in our carryons for our jackets. As soon as we are in the airport we take them off and put them in the carryon. I have no problem with tighter security.

I didn't do very well. But I'm at work with the volume off so maybe I just missed the point. I thought all of them had explosives, or chemicals.

Thank you for the heads up Dan.
We have never had to remove our jackets before, and one time I even put my inhaler in a bin to go through the scanner and was told that I didn't have to take that out of my pocket. I bet from now on I will have too though.

Thanks Dan, this is good to know since i am leaving this week, I will get there earlier.

As did I. It is interesting since I fly all the time to and from school

I got all the real threats plus 2 false alarms! Rather that way then miss some :)

This is why we drive everywhere. While I think that the extra security measures are great. It is such a pain to go through all this with 2 kids (one of them being a complete monkey). When we flew in January, they made all of us (even the baby) take off our shoes and coats. UGH!

So, it is driving for us as much as we can. I just hate flying these days.

i'm with you. although one year we tried to drive to my parents fo rthanksgiving and a normally 8 hour trip took more than 13. we take the train now. :p

I will get to see the "new" procedures next week when I go to Dallas.

I can't wait for the ACLU's first "The Evil Profilers at the TSA Violated My Civil Rights" case
