Hi there,
Let me preface this and say that we always drive to Disney because we live in Florida. We usually go to Walmart before getting to the Resorts to get our breakfast items and some other food. The last time we were there we found a supermarket over by Downtown Disney. I think it is on 535 in the Crossroads shopping center.

Yesterday we arrived and I said instead of going to walmart, lets just go there and we can grab the few items we need and get back to the hotel.

We walked into the store and I noticed there were not many people in there. All the shelves were stocked. We picked up our 1/2 gallon of milk, 1 12 pack of 12 oz Dasani water bottles and my husband snuck in a package of Oreos. We went to the check out and the cashier said $19.99 please. I looked cross-eyed at the computer screen. The milk was $2.50 (which is not bad), the Oreos were $6.09 and the water was a whopping $9.99!!!!!

Needless to say, we will never be going back there and we will continue to shop at Walmart unless we find another supermarket nearby.

I guess I shouldn't have been totally shocked, but I guess it is a really good lesson!!

Have a Magical Day!!!

We are off to MK today

The last and only time we shopped at Gooding's was when WDW announced they were going to 24 hour room confinement for Hurricane Jeanne:scared1:

We were staying at SSR and there was a run on the Grocery stores. Every store was emptied of bottled water and staples.

Gooding's however was fully stocked with their $10 12 packs of water and their $3 cans of Rotel!

I was ready to head back out into the storm after I saw those prices.

We now shop at Winn Dixie which is a left turn and about 1 1/2 miles down. Decent prices and about as far from the World as I want to be. I keep their frequent shopper card in my PassPorter since we dont have WD here.

Also notice the gas stations right outside WDW charge way more than Hess on Disney property.

You can't drag me into a Wal-Mart that's even scarier than the prices at Goodings! LOL!

Have a Magical day at MK!

I've been complaining about the prices at Goodings for years, but the convenience factor usually won out, especially for just a few items. Where exactly is that Winn-Dixie?

Gooding's has always been rather high priced, but it is considered a more upscale market than Wal-Mart or Winn-Dixie. We have shopped there before, but it's been about ten years. We prefer Publix, which is much nicer than Winn-Dixie or Wal-Mart, and cheaper than Gooding's.

We only do Goodings when we are in a hurry and don't want to go all the way to Publix on 536.

From Buena Vista, instead of going straight for Crossroads, turn left. It's about a mile down the road on the right. Next to ABC Liquor. They have a shopper card with discounts on selected items.

:thumbsup2

One Stop shopping at its best! I can get my liquor and groceries in 1 stop.

I like Winn Dixie. They have excellent beef and seafood. They are not the cheapest or the fanciest, but its well stocked, clean, has a nice wine selection (we like to go late at night so we dont feel like we are wasting vacation time) and they have the best King Crab legs! My boys love those and we only eat them on vacation:cloud9:

You can sign up for their card at the register and just keep it for your trips.

Winn Dixie has really good rotiserrie chickens, add a salad and there's a quick dinner! We shop Publix at home but Winn Dixie is so near to OKW & SSR is very convenient.

Another vote for Winn Dixie. When we first started going down there and didn't know the area, I did go to Goodings. But my pocket book likes Winn dixie more:rotfl2: :rotfl2: I did sign up for their card and last year saved me about $60.00.

When we first joined DVC (1993), Goodings was the only grocery store really close by. At that time, it was much nicer. They had a larger selection, including more ready-to-eat dinners. The trip to Goodings was just part of the vacation experience, even with the inflated prices.

As the years have gone by, the quality and variety of the offerings has declined, while it seems the prices have become even more outrageous. We only go there for an item or two when necessary.

Our preference is Publix. We shop at Publix at home, so it's familiar to us.

Don't forget about the Super-Target. It's not much furthur down the road from Publix.

We have found that the Publix ( Pass Gaylord Palms) close to 192 is the easiest and fastest to get in and out of. This is even better then the one closer to SSR.

But yes Publix all the way for us. they have everything we need and at very good prices. We will hit the Wal-mart and Super Target if we need other supplies or stuff.

Goodies one time was enough and I didn't think the Food justified the cost. We have an Upscale market here and it is worth the extra for most items we buy there when we go.

We eat a lot of fresh foods so we go every other day to the market and I have it down to under 1 hour round trip for most days now. Not bad and the rest of the family is resting at the pool or getting ready to go out for the night.

To the above poster: Goodungs USED to be considered a high-end supermarket. Now, it is little more than a tourist trap--at least the on at the Crossroads.

The last time I shopped there, ALL the produce was pre-packaged, I was unable to pick and choose.

The selection of beef, chicken and fish was EXTREMELY limited as well as pre-packaged.

Wine/beer/water/milk was $3.00 to $5.00 more per bottle/six-or twelve-pack than other places.

We prefer Winn-Dixie and Publix and NEVER go to Goodings any longer.

Like I said, Goodings at the Crossroads USED to be considered a high-end market. New it is a tourist trap, preying on the unsuspecting.

When we don't have the dining plan we always first go to Sam's Club and fill up on less expensive gas and a grocery visit. Then we go to Super Target to get the rest. Then if we need anything else, we go to Publix. I used to shop there when I lived in FL. I miss that store.

We used to go to Super Walmart, but for me, it was a bad way to start a vacation. ;)

Winn Dixie is just down the road from Goodings. Go out Hotel Plaza Blvd. You will see Goodings in front of you. Make a left. Go down the road about 5 minutes and Winn Dixie will be on the right. There is an ABC Liquor store there as well, for those of you who might be interested.

We shop at the Publix on SR 192. It's about a 10 minutes drive from OKW/SSR area.

Goodings is ridiculously expensive. I hate places that unapologetically try and screw the customer.

Thank you everyone! I guess i should have googled WD and Publix before we left on on my laptop. We thought it would just be easy too. It is one of those places that you go once, but usually not again.

Come to think about it, everyone in the store shopping were European! Everything is Half off to the anyway, so I guess the prices were fine for them.

We will try Publix ( our local store anyway) and Supertarget next time.

I was saying to my husband, Gee.. Where do all the Locals shop??? HAHAHA

We had another great mini trip. We did the Playhouse Disney Breakfast this morning at DHS and then we saw the new Playhouse Disney show. 1000% better then before. My 2 year old son loved it!
