Grumble, grumble, grumble.................I just spoke to them at 10:30am and they said they would not put me on a flight tonight without paying penalties. (instead of my flight in the morning) I've been on hold for 10 minutes and I don't expect to get thru any time soon. I am not a happy person since they did not contact me. I'll get over it, but geez, I really wish I would have been able to change my flight this morning.

Print the bulletin mentioned here and show up at the airport for the desired early flight.

If there is room and they don't let you on as an ordinary standby and also your regularly scheduled flight is severely delayed or cancelled, you can then make the case that the airline did not use its best efforts to transport you.
