FW rated worse resort !!!

Eh.....We stayed in the cabins a few weeks back and loved it. I camp on numerous offroad expeditions I go on, but the tent for my wife for 7 days would be unpleasant to her. A couple of nights....cool. But a week....not so much.

"Real campers" or not....we'll be returning to the Fort. After numerous, numerous trips, staying in the WDW deluxe resorts, we have been reminded this last trip where the fun, relaxation, and very importantly.....space....really exist. :thumbsup2

Being a real camper is more a state of mind and personality than where you stay at.

It seams to me that a lot of the folks staying at the cabins are not camping people. They just need some where thats sleep more than a normal Disney resort. They are easy to pick out. They complain about everything at the fort. Kind of like the WL people looking down on the Fort's campers.
If you don't believe me. Listen to people next time you are at the outpost bus stop or on a boat or bus headed to/from the fort or take the purple bus.

The guys from allears not a camper

Agreed. There are a few campers mixed in the cabin bunch, but for the most part you are right, the cabin people are there for the ability to sleep 6 people. I apologize to the real campers in the lot that are swept up by the broad brush of the cabin people.

I think that people who choose to stay in the cabins knowing that FW is a CAMPGROUND are going to enjoy it and have a great time. Appreciating the amenities and slower pace.:thumbsup2
If however, guests choose the cabins simply because they needed extra space or were steered in that direction by a travel agent, Chances are greater they're gonna be disappointed. Especially if they are paying full rack rate. Cabins can get pretty expensive, comparatative to rates of a Deluxe resort. Only without the deluxe resort amenities.

Well said

I want to go on the record to say that I love cabin people! And tent people, and Prevost people, and pop-up people, and Class A, B and C motorhome people, and truck campers, and tee pee people, etc. etc. etc. The diversity of the people who can enjoy the Fort is a big part of what makes it so much fun.

Like a lot of those who are now campers, I started out as a cabin person, and then realized that camping in a camping loop would be fun, and a much more cost effective way to visit the Fort frequently.

So, cabin people, do not worry, there are lots of campers who are glad to have you at the Fort. I know that once you have tried it you will be back.

Thanks for clarifying!:thumbsup2

I too enjoy the diversity of people that stay at the fort. But I agree that it's not fun to listen to others talk down about the resort that we love so much. Us campers enjoy the fort for many of the same reasons others complain about. Dont like waiting on the inside transporation??...we go out and spend 2-6k plus on golf carts.:scared1: Want to go commando in the parks and get there in a hurry....nope, the Fort is not for you!

But hey, like others said...more room for us!:thumbsup2

First of all thank you:thanks: to all who have answered us. We have stayed yearly in the cabins since 2003 and as I said before we will continue to stay because of Fort  Wilderness. We would love to have a camper but not now. When our sons were younger we were very active in Scouts and did our share of camping sometimes in very primitive areas, we also built and lived in a log cabin the Upper Peninsula of Michigan for 20 years so we
paid our camping dues, and loved it. That being said I have never heard of a cabin person talking down camper people but I have heard camper people looking down on cabin people, both here on the Camping forum on on buses and boats. We are all here at Fort Wilderness because we love it. Lets :grouphug: and stand together against those that look down on the Fort mainly because, they have never been here or cannot afford a camper or a cabin and feel sorry for them. Lets show how much we love the Fort by :welcome: new people no matter what they stay in.
As a side note Anita Answer's rating was only one person and she said it was because she was too impatient to wait for buses, the Allears rating of people staying at the Fort was 95% who recommend it 8.7 out of 10. See we are not so bad after all:cheer2:

We found the Fort by staying at the cabins, loved it so much and wanted to enjoy it with our dogs that we now come back in our TT.
If it's not "real' camping it certainly is a stepping stone.

I agree !
And it is that diversity of people that give me my favorite past time,,PEOPLE WATCHING !! And the best part is watching someone set up camp,,(the very best is watching newbies :lmao: ) HEY, I've been watched before, I can do it too ! And yes,,if it looks like they need or want it, I'll offer the help.
So those of you staying in cabins,,hurry and get a camper, tent, whatever, so I can get some laughs watching,:lmao: (yes, and helping).
:thumbsup2

There's a very fine line between a people watcher and a peeping tom, Frank.

camping weather in cabins, tents or trailers/buses is hard for some people to understand just as hang gliding or motorcycling or any other sport...if you don't do it its hard to understand the enjoyment others feel....who cares what others think of our Fort....gives us more ops to get ressies!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I love the cabins. Ive been cabin camping in many many state parks and we've always enjoyed ourselves. Ive also tent camped in many odd situations across the lower U.S. and have equally enjoyed that. I never gave much thought to owning an RV till I met you guys here. It just wasnt something I ever considered.
At FtW, the cabins ARE in a somewhat different atmosphere than the rest of the campground...not as vegetated as most of the rest of the area...but VERY NICE none the less. In all reality...they ARE TRAILERS.....decorated to look like log cabins. If it hadnt been for the cabins at the fort, I may never have come to realize how great the fort is...and my wife would never have considered tent camping there.
If money werent an issue...I honestly dont think Id like having an RV anybetter than staying in a cabin. Of coarse I say that never having owned an RV, so that statement doesnt hold much water.....but if Im "camping", ....and NOT sleeping in the open air and having the threat of fighting the elements.....I "think" Id be just as happy in a cabin as a trailer. But monry IS an issue...and I simply cant afford the cabins very often...and with the economy's current state......Im not sure I'd EVER be able to afford them again!!!

As far as them being voted "THE WORST RESORT".....what makes this guy's opinion any more valid than mine. Im sure the GF is at the top of his little doiley written list...and I HATE that atmosphere!!! Id be miserable staying in a stuffy, yuppy ridden pit like that.

I would love to stay at Wilderness Lodge, Yacht and Beach, Boardwalk, Grand Floridian, Animal Kingdom, and Riverside. But really, I wouldn't trade a Fort Wilderness stay for any other resort... even Contemporary and Poly, much less a Pop or All-Star! And I think in each case, one stay would check that box, whereas I am always longing to return to the Fort. As BDR said, my opinion is every bit as valid as any other yahoo! The Fort is the BEST sub $150/night accommodations, and the BEST vacation destination for pet-lovers!

We stayed at the Yacht Club before the camper and those people have no sense of humor. We were upgraded to a pool view room so I thought I would have fun with it. We were in the elevator with some guy carrying a briefcase and the wall street journal. This was before I cut my hair the first time so, I had a braid 3/4 the way down my back, wearing Jean shoerts ( if only they had been cutoffs ) and a Harley Davidson T-shirt with the sleeves cut off. I Proceed to start telling Lisa ( with agitation ) how dare they take away our parking lot view and give us a pool view. Lisa later informed me that our elevator companion was not amused...I on the other hand laughed about it the whole trip. To bad I didn't know enough about things at that time to add that we needed to be able to see when the rest of the reunion came over from the campground to use the fancy pool....:lmao:

Staying in a fancy resort might be interesting but there is something about sleeping in my bed with my stuff that I will not give up. As for FW being the worst I have stayed in places I will never go back to that other people say is the best place to stay. Besides IT'S A CAMPING THING if your not a camper you just don't get it.
