FW dog questions

I've been reading up on going to FW with pets, and have a couple of questions.

We have a small travel trailer and a 70 lb dog. He is a great traveller, and is used to the camper. We have taken him many times before, and he has always been great, he just sleeps til we come back. He's not a big barker, so don't think he'd disturb anyone, and the camper is fairly soundproof, even with vents/windows cracked. We were planning on leaving him in the camper and coming back to check on him every few hours, but I am now reading that dogs cannot be left unattended in the campground? Is that correct? How stringently do they enforce this?

We're going to be offsite doing SeaWorld and other Orlando attractions most of the days, so WDW kennels aren't really an option. I'd rather not kennel him at all if possible, so if anyone knows of other campgrounds that accept pets where he could be left for a few hours, I'd be thankful.

Does anyone know any good 24 hour vets in Orlando? I like to have the # of one when we travel just in case...

Also, I know you stay on pet loops, but are pets (leashed of course) allowed in other areas of FW? What about on the beach? We've stayed at FW several times, but that was pre-dog.. so I didn't pay much attention.

Thanks!

Dogs can't be left alone that will bark and cause problems. Quiet dogs in motorhomes and trailers are fine.

No, sorry, dogs have to stay on the pet loops. There is a sign at the exit to each that says No Pets Beyond This Point.

I don't know the number of a vet--I always figured if I needed one the front desk would have that info.

Have fun planning!

Pets can't be left unattended in tent campers (pop ups), but anything else is ok, as long as it is air conditioned and the pet doesn't disturb others. I would contact the kennels at FW for a vet's number. The staff there is top notch and very helpful. Sorry, but no pets on the beach. Leashed pets on the pet loop areas only. ::MickeyMo

Thanks for the info both of you!

Nice to know we can leave him where he's most comfy and still stay at Fort Wilderness!

Dear bearsmomma,

The other posts have been right on. You can definately keep your pet in your camper. We have camped lots of times at FW and always had our 2 dogs with us. My pups would freak out if they were placed in a kennel. You hear dogs barking in the campers - afterall you are in a pet loop and dogs will bark.

So take your pup and have a great time.
