I love the Fort Wilderness Cabins. I am a huge fan of FW in general because it is Disney but it is so laid back you can actually relax. There are pools at FW as well as playgrounds, water mice, boat rentals, horseback riding, horse drawn carriage rides, a petting zoo, nature trails, bicycle rentals... it is a really great place. The transportation is OK...they have internal Fort Wilderness busses that will pick you up within the property and take you to other locations on the property. The internal bus has a stop at the front that will drop you off at the bus stop for the parks (except MK, they have a boat that runs from the Marina). The buses run quite frequently so it is not that big of an issue (especially the internal buses). You have great dining options on site as well, there is the Hoop Dee Doo Musical Review (which is the dinner show) There is the Backyard BBQ (if it is being offered, it's outside so it is seasonal), you have Trails End Buffeteria which is a Buffet and Crocket's Tavern which is Pizza and appetizers. You can also get pizza to go from there. There is the campfire at night which is neat, the characters come out to that and there is a movie shown on a big screen (all outdoors). If you go out to the Beach at night (bring a flashlight) and keep walking to the right (away from the Contemporary, you can see it across the lake) you will come across a little cabin (they used to do a children's show there) it has some chairs and tables in front of it... this is a GREAT place to watch the fireworks from MK...

The thing to remember is that Fort Wilderness is a campground so it is very woodsie...You WILL need bug spray at night (but these days you need that anywhere). I just really enjoy the atmosphere of FW it is so close to everything without feeling so rushed :)

We love the cabins and FTW. As you can see by my signature, I have spent LOTS of time at Ft. Wilderness. This past summer we stayed at the Poly, and while it was nice, I sure did miss "home". We will be arriving back at the cabins soon and can't wait! We do drive and use our own transportation. FTW has improved transportation somewhat, though. Also, we rent a golfcart because FTW is large and spread out. The cart isn't necessary, but sure is fun and convenient.

I am also from Newnan! Interesting to find another FW fan from the same town! We took our first trip to WDW in Sept and stayed in a Cabin. We really enjoyed the campground and the peace and quiet. I am also a DAWG!

kaylajr--
I will be glad to answer any questions about the campground and cabins--I posted on the other thread about our experience.

I think many will tell you that FW is the hidden gem of WDW. We find it probably the most relaxing resort. Having worked there I can also say that the cms there are the friendliest.

The cabins have a bedroom with dbl bed & bunk beds, bathroom, LR w/murphy bed and fully equiped kitchen. We especially enjoy the deck where we can sit out and people watch while enjoying the wonderful environment. Bugs wont be too bad except in Oct & Nov which are the worst months for mosquitos. You might want to request a cabin near the entrance or exit to a loop. They are quite large and this will cut down on some of the walking.

So many things to do that I know many guest who stay at FW and never enter a park. Biking, canoeing, Petting Zoo, Recycle Scavenger hunt, fishing, hiking trails and horseback riding just to name a few.

Transportation: There is an internal bus that goes to two central hubs, one at the front of the campground and the other at the back. From these hubs you can catch buses to all the parks. There is a boat launch for the MK which is a wonderful excursion in itself. Some like to reserve a golf cart so that they have their own transportation within the resort.

FW also has one of the few shows that is free. Each night Chip and Dale host a campfire sing a long and then a Disney movie follows. Dont forget the marshmellows.

There are two pools one in the cabin loops and another larger one in the Meadow Trading Post area at the center of the campground.

I am sure you will love it. To find the experts on camping at WDW you might want to visit the Camping forum. They will be glad to give you the inside scoop.

We stay at WL, but have t boat over to FW many times during our stay. The Campfire is one our favorite WDW treats and Trails End is the best kept secret at WDW. Home of the best Mac & Cheese and Cornbread to die for.

I LOVED THE CABINS! We loved the quiet and beauty that surrounds the cabin area. We also really liked the pool even though it was just a pool (no slide or other such stuff). There are two and one for the cabins specifically - but it got crowded and, well, if any more of us complain about the pools at FTW, they're sure to do something soon with these pools, right...right.... - but until then, the beauty and the amenities of the cabins make up for the pools (which really are quite lovely and the ones at the cabins smell like jasmine). I would also recommend a golf cart to get to the other areas of the campground - we didn't get one and it made traveling anywhere slow - not a problem unique to the cabins. We stayed with another couple and our two children both under the age of two. It worked out great and we didn't feel cramped at all. The difference between cabins at FtW and other Home away from Home rooms is the deck, the grill, and the peacefulness of the campground. You get a full size fridge, stove, and microwave and cooking utensils and pots and pans at the cabins - making life with toddlers great while being away from home. The back bedroom is very large and the bathroom is truly very, very nice and large also. We slept on the pullman out in the living room and set up a full size crib we rented next to us to give you an idea of the size of the living room. We then used the dining area each night to play cards and games after the kids went to sleep - so the cabins are really super roomy for four people plus kids.

We went over to the Wilderness Lodge and I couldn't wait to get back - the pool was absolutely jammed with people and kids - the lobby was like a bus station and there was not quiet to be found anywhere. It is a huge difference at FtW that I liked a lot.

I was told that Loop 2500 was the best by far - well, we requested it and it just so happened that that loop was closed for some renovation work so they placed us in 2600 - what a stroke of good luck. Loop 2600 was beautiful, private, and has a bus stop at the end of it and is directly across Peacock Pass from the pool - so request this loop for all the best amenities and make sure you ask to be near the start (or end depending on whether or not you are a glass is half full or half empty type of person ) of the loop and you will not have far to walk at all for everything you need.

To further explain why it was a stroke of luck NOT to get Loop 2500, that loop has very little trees and the loop is small so the cabins back up onto one another making being on your deck very open to your neighbors unlike the wooded privacy we got in Loop 2600. Loop 2500 has the handicap accessible cabins so if you are physically challenged, this will be where they place you. The cabins seem to be a little larger due to this and the decks are definately a little larger in Loop 2500 to accommodate wheelchairs accessibility.

I am now a huge fan of Loop 2600 as you can tell - wherever you are, though, you will be surrounded by the beauty and tranquility of the campground - I couldn't, and still can't, get over the beauty and peace and quiet we found there.

Have fun with whatever you choose - all resorts are absolutely lovely.

Oh, and one more thing (I know, I know - super long thread but...), I am realizing while planning this next trip that it was sooo wonderful to be able to take that boat around to MK and to the Contemporary to get to the TTC - it was another aspect to the peacefullness of the place.

This is a lay-out of the Wilderness Cabins.
Sorry I can't this to come-up correct, but if you go to Waltdisneyworld.com then go to Resorts/ Home-away-from-home you can access it.
