FW Cabins w/DVC pts?

Has anyone used their points for the FW cabins? The summer points per night are not bad once July hits. I read that they sleep 6 and appear to have a lot of the same features as DVC rooms.

Any thoughts on the FW area? I have never explored it before.

Hey, my name is Ellen too! It's very rare when I meet other Ellen's. I LOVE FW! I have stayed there many times since I was a kid, my last trip there was in 2006. They recently renovated all the cabins and are very nice. But after staying in DVC accomodations, they are smaller than the typical DVC one-bedroom. The kitchen and living area are nice, but the bedroom is small with not much room to move around (full bed + bunk beds). The living area also has a murphy bed for the other 2 people. The full kitchen w/ dishwasher is nice with lots of cabinet/pantry space. There is also one full bath.

If you like the outdoors then you will love FW! It is also very spread out. I've been in the outer loops before and it's (approx) one mile to the Trails End Buffet and boat launch, so expect to use the internal buses to get around. I've never had a bad experience there. And the boat service to the MK is great!

You'll probably have people tell you that it's not worth the points to use there, but FW is the one place I would use points for outside the DVC resorts, just because of the quiet outdoor atmoshpere.

I've stayed at FW before & loved it. Hoop de doo Revue is an awesome show....back when I went they gave you actual pails of chicken...YUM....not sure what they do now.

I would be also interested in hearing from those that have used their points for FW.

Not to continue another rumor, but I have read that Disney was considering making the old River Country area part of FW. I loved River Country, so if they did that, it would definitely make me want to stay there at least for a night or two...

We've stayed at FW cabins before and loved it. The only thing it doesn't have that DVC units larger than studios have would be the washer and dryer.

We really enjoyed the woodsy atmosphere and look forward to staying here again in the future.

Thank you for the feedback!! FW seems like such a departure from the hectic life in the parks. That what really attracts us to want to try it. From what you all have said, it sounds just like what we are looking for from time to time!!

I would like to spend a night or two there sometime just because I've never visited that area. Looks fun.

Our family just love FW and have stayed in a cabin several times. Even though we are DVC members, we would love to stay there again.

We just had our first visit to the cabins in Feb. and loved it!!!! In fact my 2 1/2 yo DS keeps asking me when are we going back to our cabin!! We stayed on a cash AP rate that was very reasonable. In fact I know we will visit there again. But I don't think I'd use my DVC points - I'd use an AP rate again.

Just used points over Easter to stay in a cabin! We loved it. I would stay again. The cabins are expensive Easter week and I found no discounts so using points didn't bother me. If I had time to shop for a discount, I might have paid cash depending on price. I didn't stay during the weekend.

We used points there and loved it... Like another poster mentioned, you have just about everything you have in a 1BR minus the Washer/Dryer and hottub... (There are community washer and dryers throughout the campground..)

FW is nice though because there is a ton to do... Hoop-de-do... Mickey's Backyard BBQ.. Wagon rides... Petting Zoo.. Playground... Pool.. (nothing fancy, but not bad).. Campfire sing alongs w/Chip and Dale.. Outdoor movie theatre.. Two restaurants... Hiking trails..

The other thing I really liked is that the units are somewhat spread apart, and it feels more like a home... You even have a deck to picnic and BBQ on..

In the cabin itself, there is a murphy bed (queen, I think) in the living room.. There is a bedroom with a full size bed, and twin bunks... Full kitchen..

Yes, I kept thinking it would be a fun place if we were planning to "go light" on the parks and have a more relaxing vacation. All the things you mentioned that FW has to do sound so fun! Isn't the horseback riding there, too?

I haven't used points for the cabins ( but I have stayed in one ) but I am now using points for the campground. I know I'll get hammered for it but their my points and I'll use them the way I want. Oh, remember, the cabins can accommodates six, but, a one bedroom, with a washer & dryer, will only hold four. And, you get full Mousekeeping, everyday, in the cabins.

Wow that would be awesome! I loved River Country. I was wondering about it the other day. Is it closed now? I have always been confused about all the water parks..we have never been to any of the water parks as a family, but River Country was fun I was there in the late 80's!

We stayed at the cabins last year. We loved it! And would love to stay again. I called to see about using our points to stay at the cabins and for a (I think) a 7-night stay it would have cost us 276 points. I can't remember if we wanted them for June or May. I just remember it was more points than we had available.

I wish they made them a part of DVC!

A downside in my opinion is that it can be difficult to get around on foot. Depending on the location of your cabin, the walk to the busstop can be lengthy. I would recommend getting the golf cart or having your own car. Still, we love the cabins and the whole atmosphere over there. One of my favorite things to do it take the nature path between FW and VWL. Enjoy!

Okay....I'm confused. I didn't think you were allowed to drive around much in FW. I thought that driving of your personal vehicle was discouraged, and that if you wanted total freedom to roam you needed to rent a golf cart. Where are you allowed to drive and what locations are NOT accessible by your personal vehicle?
