FW as your final resting place ??

This will always be a problem with "popular" places, and to be honest, I doubt it will ever change. It's not like it's exactly hard to conceal what you are doing.

And I've already discussed this issue before on this forum, along with what our family has done, and I don't think this thread is going to be around long since it's something illegal, so I'll just say that no we've never done it ;)

i told my family take the life insurance money book the walt suite on the magic and drop me off at castaway cay off in the woods somewhere down there not on the beach where everyones kids play, just off somewhere where im not in the way

I'm not trying to get anyone in trouble or anything. :sad2: I just read the article and thought it was an interesting topic. So many people love FW that it made me wonder if it wasn't illegal, if people would want to do it.

I've personally never seen anyone doing it (other than on Grey's Anatomy ;) )

The King is awesome!!! I love your music selections. Metallica and Elvis. Can't go wrong there. :thumbsup2

I am starting to win my husband over with Elvis. (ok so maybe he is just starting to tolerate it but I gotta start somewhere) Someday we will even get to Graceland. I am getting closer.

I love the multi-generational musicians - My mom loved the Beatles, my Dad loved Elvis, I love both and my daughter does too. She loved that Elvis music was a big part of Lilo and Stitch; when we travel out west with the kids Graceland is our first stop. Did you know there's a campground very close to Graceland? It's not too far to walk from one to the other - I think it's even called the Graceland Campground or something.

FW as a final resting place - since ash sprinkling is verboten my plans of having the family bury me behind site 1506 should still be OK, right? I'll have to die around Halloween so 3 of my kids can dress as hitch-hiking ghosts and the 4th can be the groundskeeper from HM (you know with lantern and skin and bones dog). Our dog will play the part of the dog so I guess they should stay on the 1600 loop. No one would say anything about this group digging a big hole back there, would they? Bones forever resting in peace to the sound of armadillo rustling above at night, the smell of bacon and coffee in the morning and shiny happy people holding hands and heading out to the parks every morning.

I have looked into that campground and thought that would be perfect. I could walk over to Graceland myself if my husband didn't want to go.

It is funny. I don't even remember how I started liking Elvis. I think it was seeing a video of Blue Hawaii that my grandparents had when I was a little kid. I have just loved Elvis all my life.

Oh, not saying you are at all :P It's just that this kind of thread has come up before and been locked down normally, that's all. Not that you were trying to get anyone into trouble, I just know some of the history of this forum...lol.

And yea, if it wasn't illegal, I would imagine even more people would want to do it ;)

I bet your husband would go with you to Graceland, Elvis might not be his favorite but I don't think that would keep him from being with you (like so many spouses who make that trip every year to WDW when they'd really rather lay on the beach for a week or just stay at Fort Wilderness and not go to the parks - that's my husband!)

Blue Hawaii!! It and GI Blues are my favorites and I think that's where my daughter got her love of Elvis (and Hawaii, that's why she was so excited about L & St.). When AMC would have his movie marathon I would always be sure to watch Blue Hawaii. (I've had it on my 'too buy' list for a long time).

I propose we start a "last man" club. As we die off, our ashes will be combined in a really big Mason jar. The last alive has the responsibility of spreading our collective ashes around FW.

We could also be known as the "Green Mile Club" - - - you know - - - as Disboarder's identify themselves with Alien Green Mickey heads. I think Stephen King would find it a rather twisted tribute to him!!!

As for me.... (and we all know that it is always about ME)....

(ahem)

I want my ashes placed in the creek beside the group camping area. I often take my golf cart along side the creek & just sit there enjoying a cuppa joe & the peace & quiet - if there is no group camping there, that is.

My DH, Pastor, DBro, and several friends know this - so I'm sure one of them will out-live me. If not.... I will hold one of you on the board accountable for carrying out my wish!! :rotfl:

As far as planning a funeral.... DO IT!!! I've been a church secretary for 3 years since retiring from the Tel-Co, and the worst thing is preparing a service for someone that you don't know. The family is not in any mind frame to make decisions, and I always stress out (along with my Pastor) about choosing the correct hymns, scripture passages, etc. Anyhow, no matter what kind of funeral you or a loved one will have... plan it out ahead of time. That way, you'll get what you or your family wants. okay - enough lecturing!!

I am pretty sure he would go with me. Hey, he might actually even enjoy it. Might be my last step in to converting him to an Elvis fan. Ok, ok, to someone who can tolerate Elvis better. :lmao: Elvis fan would be pushing it.
He seems to enjoy all the trips I plan. Even going to the parks. I think what is nice for us as far as the parks go is that it is just the two of us and we aren't really in any hurry. No commando style for us.

Blue Hawaii is awesome. Every year around the anniversary of his death they show all these movies. This year was great because there were loads of things I had never seen before. Like Aloha from Hawaii and the 68 Comeback Special. It was too cool. Now thanks to our little DVR I can see it whenever I want. :thumbsup2

I think that is a good idea. Especially if there is something that you really do want done. Best to make your wishes known.

BTW- I would have never thought I would be on the DIS boards talking about this subject.:eek:

Im a telco also.

Hi everyone! I'm sorry, but Colson is correct. Since it's technically illegal to spread ashes in WDW without getting permission first, I must close this thread. But here's some official information:

There are no laws in Florida prohibiting scattering ashes.
Florida Law does not prohibit scattering ashes. This does not mean, however, that you may spread or scatter the ashes anywhere you choose.
• You should not spread or scatter ashes on public lands or any inland bodies of water such as streams, rivers or lakes, etc.
• You may spread, scatter or bury ashes on any private land that you own or have obtained permission from the owner. We would suggest that you obtain this permission in writing.
• Many states have different laws regarding this subject. If you are considering spreading or scattering ashes somewhere other than Florida, you should check the laws of that state before proceeding.
• Scattering or spreading ashes in the ocean is permitted, however federal regulations do specify this should be done only beyond 3 miles from the coast.

Have a good day! :goodvibes
