This might be a weird question. I know SSR is just opening this
spring but does anybody know if there are any more vacation
club resorts being planned for the future? any info? thanks beech

Prior to announcing SSR, they had announced another resort to built along the Eagle Pine & Osprey Ridge golf courses. This resort was also going to include a "hotel". The demise of the Disney Institute led them to shift gears and go ahead with SSR first. They originally said that Eagle Pines had just been moved to the back burner so, hopefully, it will become a reality eventually. The plans looked excellent.

I know many will disagree, but I'm of the opinon that SSR will be the last. I hope I'm wrong.

Dean, don't leave us hanging - would you share your rationale?

thanks

It's nothing I haven't posted before. I am of the opinion that DVC is becoming somewhat saturated. EP was announed then put on the back burner. It is a similar resort concept in many ways to SSR and OKW. SSR will take a while to sell out, 8-10 years would be my guess. VB and HH left a bad taste in DVC's mouth and if SSR is slow to sell in their opinion, I think we're done. As I noted, I hope I'm wrong.

According to the July 19, 2001, press release for the DVC resort on Eagle Pines Golf Course, it was to be a "600-unit ownership development." It did not include a hotel.

The following paragraph from the press release talks about a "main Inn building," but that's just a larger building, which, in addition to accomodations, would have the lobby, restaurant, shop, and exercise room. In contrast, the Villa buildings would only have accommodations. If you look at the picture in the press release, that seems to be the "main Inn building."

Quoting from the press release:

The proposed 600-unit ownership development is slated to occupy a 61-acre site along the award-winning Disney’s Eagle Pines golf course at Walt Disney World Resort. All rooms will feature either a pool, golf course or forest view. Initial plans call for the construction of a main Inn building encompassing a check-in area; accommodations; restaurant/lounge; theme pool with feature slide; retail space; arcade; common living room area and a health club, as well as Villa buildings containing vacation home accommodations. Development will begin this fall with an estimated opening in spring/summer 2004.

I don't see any reason why the plans won't be resurrected in the future.

Thanks for the laugh Nick....

Interesting comment, I guess unless DVC builds in "demand" locations in small doses it is a long haul each time they build a larger resort

thanks for the insight

cheers

I'm thinking (hoping) that they at least build the EP resort. Since they've already done some work on the plans, and they've already announced it, it would possibly be wasteful financially and bad public relations not to do what they said they would. After all, if someone bought after hearing their "promise" to build EP, then they don't, doesn't look good. I know our contract says something about not buying with any potential future resorts in mind (can't remember the exact wording), but I don't think it would make DVC's image too good after they announced EP for them to then pull the plans and not build it. Maybe I'm just hoping here-after all, I'd love to see a resort there.

Just spoke with a DVC worker Wednesday, he said that EP is on the back burner and that the Contemporary will have the wing closest to MK demolished and a DVC resort will be rebuilt in it's place. The first one to have monorail service.

Introducing: VCR - The Villas At Contemporary Resort!

I was talking with a DVC rep at AKL and asked if they would build there- He said "You've been reading the DIS haven't you? Did you hear the one about the Contemporary too?"

He said in his opinion Eagle Pines would be built next, and that VCR are just wishful thinking...he heard nothing to confirm this it was just his opinion and he's a longtime DVC owner originally from (I think it was) Michigan himself.

I DID hear somewhere that they are looking to open one on Mars though......:scratchin

I am quite sure there is a thread here on the plans for the Villas at Mars Outpost, and that Mission: Space was built to whet ppl's appetites for it. Who could say no? Has the advantages of being both DVC and the first human habitations on Mars:tongue: . I am gonna hold out for either VMO or VAKL...

Sorry I misspoke -- I called the Inn a hotel. My understanding of the original plans would be that it would similar to Vero in that DVC members would have the option of staying in the Inn/hotel section unlike BWI where it is totally seperate from the points system.
