Future reservation with banked points.

I would like to make a reservation for a 2011 vacation using some points I've banked from 2009. Possible?

My use year is February. I've banked some 2009 points so I understand they would expire in February of 2011 if not used, yes? May I make a reservation now for a cruise in August of 2011 using those points? Is it the case that they have to be available at the time of travel or at the time of making the reservation?

I think they will expire at the end of the use year you banked them into if they were not used before then. So they wound expire in February 2011, since you banked 2009 points into 2010. You could borrow points from 2012 though right??...to make your trip in August. You have to have points at the time of the reservation if you are using banked points I know.

For instance I have 156 points from my Dec use year 2009. I had to bank 48 of those points into 2010 because I needed them for a reservation in Dec next year(we will get 210 points Dec, 1, 2010 but needed 258 points for the reservation we wanted). I had to bank them before I called to make the reservation at my 11 month mark. I have until July 31 (Dec UY)2010 to use the 108 left over points from 2009, or bank them before that date into 2010. Clear as mud, right.

With a February UY, your 2009 points would be good to use from Feb.1, 2009 until Jan. 31, 2010.

If you bank 2009 points, your points would now be good to use from Feb. 1, 2010 until Jan, 31, 2011.

Therefore, you may not use 2009 banked points for a trip in August 2011.

You may, however, use your current 2011 points and borrow your 2012 points to use for a 2011 trip.

They would have to be available at the time of travel. By banking them they now expire at the same time as 2010 UY points so you would not be able to use them for an August 2011 vacation. However, you could borrow from 2012 for the August 2011 trip.

I think that your 2009 points cannot be used. When we booked our 2011 cruise, we had available 2009 banked points, 2010 points, and 2011 points. We needed 268 for our December, 2010 trip, so my guess is that the 2009 banked points were used for that trip plus what we needed from 2010, and the remaining 2010 points were banked into 2011 so we could use them to cruise. My recommendation, though, would be to call MS - we can speculate, but they will tell you what you can and can't do. Good luck.

Call MS and ask if you want to use them for a cruise. IIRC, there are some different rules/exceptions for booking cruises with points. It's worth a call to find out.

i just purchased november 2009 and got all the points for that year and banked them. However I must use them by the end of november 2010. So u wont be able to use them in 2011

Does MS always use your banked points first, automatically for a reservation?? Do you specifally have to tell them to use banked points first. Do you tell them when you book the reservation or can it be a any point and time or not at all??

If I bank 2009 points into 2010....do they use my 2009 points first and then get the balance from 2010, allowing me to use left over 2010 points for 2011??

I now this has been asked lots before....just wondering and didn't want to search for the answer..
