You may remember my rant last week that my DD9 and about a dozen other girls were punished with lots of extra conditioning last Tuesday because they missed gymnastics to trick or treat.

DD came home from gymnastics on Saturday talking about a little girl who goes to school at the gym. This little girl (an 8 year old Level 6) has a three hour work out in the morning, then her mom comes to the gym and "home schools" her there, then she takes a short nap at the gym, then does her evening workout. (I assume she eats sometime in there.) So this girl spends approximately 10 1/2 hours a day, 5 days a week at the gym!!!

I guess compared to HER, anyone who thinks of doing something like trick or treating would be viewed as undedicated. Maybe that's how one gets to the Olympics, but that's certainly not anything we'll be doing any time soon!

Yea, well she'd better grow up to be an Olympic gymnast or else she'll have nothing to look back on other than a real pathetic childhood.

Former gymnast here saying 8 yr. old Level 6 isn't going to make it to the Olympics. Sadly, you just see the talent earlier and they'll soar to Level 10 (which is certainly nothing to be ashamed of). Even if they do have that kind of talent, burnout or injury is still a huge factor.

50 hours a week in the gym is riduculous for any level. For a Level 6, it's just assinine.

I totally agree. We have an 8 year old level 8...she might have a bit more promise.

We have a couple of other 8-10 year old Level 6s who are being home schooled due to gymnastics. Seems like the parents would realize that their daughters are not going to be super stars and let them have a more normal life.
