I'm really thinking about buying the Furreal Friends dog Biscuit toy for our 19 month old son. He starts laughing and smiling when he sees the video of it. He puts his head on the computer trying to hug it. It's really cute. However, I really need for him to be able to see it in real life before I buy it. He does get scared sometimes by moving and talking toys. Does anyone know a store that may have it out to look at? I'm in Macon, GA. Should I consider driving to Atlanta? I've called our local toysrus, kbtoys, walmart, kmart, and target. None of them have it on display.

Does anyone have opinions on this toy that has bought it or seen it up close? In your opinion, is it worth $179? Thanks for your opinions.

It is BIG! And my daughter begged for a furreal cat a couple years ago- it scared her and we had to get rid of it(she was 8!!)
That's a lot of $$ for a potential scare toy. I wouldn't do it. It is cute but I can see it getting old pretty quickly. Although maybe it was limited for the store demo.

Have you seen the giant soft dino?

Now that was one cute toy. But $299 not happening in this house. Good luck.

That's exactly why I want to actually see it myself and let him touch it. Where did you find the demo at? I keep thinking the same thing you are. Is he going to get scared or bored of it easily? I mean he's only 19 months. But he loves the video of it. I'm so torn between getting it and not getting it.

And the dino is adorable but he could care less about it. Go Figure

We've had the white furry cat and a couple of the small babies. I've found that they are adorable to look at and the kiddos are happy when the first play with them, but they are not a huggable, squeezable kind of a stuffed animal. Because of their moving parts, you can definitely feel the plastic body of them. My kids did not play with them very long. Not worth the $$ in my opinion.

Thank you both. I will keep checking toys r us. The more I think about it though, I just don't think it is worth the money for a toddler. He may find it funny and entertaining for a short while or it could scare him to death. Wouldn't that be a great Christmas morning? "Look what Santa brought, Tyson!" He sees the dog and goes screaming out of the living room! :rotfl2: Heartwarming moment! LOL Anyway I appreciate everyone's insight into the dog. I'm new to toy shopping. It was easy to buy for a little baby, but not anymore!!! :rotfl:

I steer away from Furreal toys. DD wanted that panda so bad one year for christmas, when we got it out of the box it was heavy and mechanical feeling. She didn't enjoy it and it sat unplayed with, her stuffed animals she can sleep with^^.

Its out at BJ's and its$149 there, still not worth it in my opinion.
My dd keeps asking for Butterscotch the horse, $299, yeah like thats going to happen:lmao:

My oldest dd HAD to have the white cat when it came out - I had to pay extra on ebay. Played with it for 2 whole days. We also have a panda, and a yellow lab that's supposed to respond. Save your $.

We are one of those crazy ones who got Butterscotch from Santa two years ago for our then 2 yo dd. She has played with that thing religiously for 2 years but she is big into animals - kinda one of those kids that you know from a young age will work with animals. Now her 6 yo brother thinks it is pointless and has since she got it. Her 14 month old brother likes it to the point that he laughs at it - hits it - and tries to knock it over. I have seen the Biscuit one in BJs - the 4yo is trying to convince us she needs that one too - no such luck we have a real dog that does the same stuff for free. The baby likes it but in no way would I ever buy it for a baby - part of the appeal in it is the voice commands it responds to - that would be lost on a baby. They are hard and for some reason if they accidentally "bite" your son he probably won't like it to much - ours screams everytime he sees that Elmo live doll at the store b/c the first time we showed it to him he stuck his hand in its mouth while it was talking and that was enough to freak him out.
Ok I babbled - long story short I would not buy it for a toddler

If you are looking for a toy that he will grown into - we got our oldest his first GeoTrax set when he was turning two and he still sets those up and plays with them

Our TRU had it on display yesterday. It is large and so cute! My son is 8 and wouldn't stop playing with him! He acts just like a real dog and has several commands.
Edited to add that we had to buy Scamps for my son when he first came out and it is a smaller version of this new dog. My son played with him a few times and now he sits on the bookshelf collecting dust.

We have had the Furreal Golden Retriever - looked like Biscuit but small, and the baby cheetah. My dd was 6 when she got the GR and 7 when she got the cheetah. She played with each one for about 5 minutes.

It's not that I didn't try to help her learn how to play with it. I think it was because it was so robotic. It was not soft and cuddly. You would think the company could put padding around the mechanical parts somehow!:confused3
