Furnace Restart?

Okay, so first off, I'm an idiot. Thought I could wait a few more days before ordering oil-like until my next payday. I couldn't. I'm completely empty. I've only run out one time before, about 16 years ago when my ex left, and back then I was an even bigger idiot-didn't even know where the oil gage was. Anyhow, that time my husband ordered the oil and had them restart the furnace. I had to pay extra for the restart, since it was considered a service call.

Well, while I am still an idiot, I now know where the restart button on the furnace is. My question is, is there something more involved than just pushing the button, and do I really NEED to call the service man out here? Or can I just get the tank filled, flip the switch, and push the button myself?

Oh, just thought of another question. I've always been told I need to keep the switch on all year long so the thing circulates or whatever during the summer. (I turned it off when I noticed I was out of oil so it didn't try to come on.) Is this true, or am I just wasting money?

You can press the button yourself to restart it if it happens again. If you don't let the oil run out again, the furnace should cut on automatically, without having to be restarted.

you might need to prime it, depending on how out of oil you were.
There are some pretty good instructions online for how to restart an oil furnace. In the short term, you can use diesel fuel...don't do it long term, because it burns too hot..but you can go to the local gas station and get 10 gallons or so for the night.
