Funny Thing Hubby Said About GF

OK, I'm the Disney nut in our little family of 3. I would go to Disney every year twice a year, but hubby does not feel the same way. So as a compromise we go to Disney on odd numbered years. Normally we travel with family members and usually go with a value (ASMov is our fav) or a Moderate. For our 2009 trip we are going alone, so we decided to go Deluxe. I let hubby pick, since DD and I'd be happy anywhere. His main deciding factor was transportation, so we decided to go with a monorail hotel. Here is where the fun comes in.

He asks "What hotel is the best?". I answer they are all nice, but GF is "the best". I told him it really depends on what he likes. If you like Victorian elegance go with GF, if you like a tropical feel go with the Poly, if modern design is your thing go with Contemporary. He says, "Let's just go with the best, and book the GF". Just to make sure, I pull up allears on the computer and play the slide show of GF.

I'm in the kitchen, and I hear him yell "OMG it looks like my Grandma threw up in this room!!!!!!!!!!!! Do all the rooms look like that?????".

I'm cracking up and answer, "yes, they all look like that".

Hubby again, "Are you kidding me? I can stay at my grandma's for free, people pay to stay there? Grandma's missing out on a great opportunity!"

I say, " Yes, people pay to stay there, it is actually a really beautiful resort, some consider the rooms to be romantic. You even said you liked it when we ate there."

Hubby, "There is nothing romantic about grandma's, does the room come with cats, and moth balls?"

I had him look at the other slide shows and he picked the Contemporary. He really liked the design of the rooms. We'll see what he says when he is in the shower and wants a towel, or when he tries to brush his teeth, over those sinks. LOL! Ha, I'm just joking I'm sure we'll be happy with the Contemporary. I hope it is a hit for us, reading some of the reviews it seems like it has been a miss for others. But seriously, how bad of a time can you have at the Happiest Place on Earth?

Just thought I'd share my hubby surprising remarks about the GF. It goes to show that there are different strokes for different folks. If there weren't all of the WDW hotels would be the same.

How funny is your husband. We stay at the GF all the time and my DH is not too thrilled with the frilliness of the decor but he likes the resort itself and the convenience to the MK as well as to the CR. We were thinking of making our April trip a CR stay but the decor doesn't look too disneyish for us. So back to the GF we go. I know the YC is not a monorail resort but DH liked that one over the GF. No matter where you will be staying I am sure you will have a fabulous time.

My husband took one step inside GF and said, "I feel like I just walked into a Stanley Kubrick film." He half-expected to see a kid riding a Big Wheel down the hallway!

I always thought it was quite romantic myself, but now I'm not so certain I could stay there without having nightmares of twin girls!

Yea, the DH is pretty funny. BTW I looked into it and the GF rooms DO NOT have cats or moth balls, sorry.

I knew all along he would pick the Contemporary, because it is more his style. That is why I made sure I showed him the slide show. He is not a park person, he plays golf everyday while we are there, and meets us in the evening for meals and shows and a few rides. I don't mind and I don't expect for him to tour the parks commando style like we do, he is more laid back. I was absolutely floored when he agreed to go on a Disney Cruise, albeit a 4 day. Beggars can't be choosers. Deep deep deep down inside I know he really likes Disney, but will not admit it.

Our trip is not until 2009 but I was considering getting a land/sea package, so I wanted him to pick a hotel. But I found out the land/sea package is land/sea and can not be sea/land. So we will stick to separate packages for the cruise and the park stay afterward.

My husband and I completley agree with your husband on this one. It's the reason that we'll probably never stay there.

I also hate every bed and breakfast that I've ever stayed in for this same reason.

Kirkland-We just say no to bed and breakfasts, now, too. Our last one was with an scowling innkeeper we refer to as Broom Hilda. On our bed was a 1/2 finished quilt "tied" together with a billion safety pins. That was our blanket for the night. Now, anything too cute and lacy brings back bad memories. No fault of GF, but I'm afraid the decor would remind us of a really annoying stay in Grand Junction.

Wow, ya didn't even get the whole quilt! I will now know to stay away from Broom Hilda's Grand Junction B & B!

I thought we were the only ones with an aversion to B&B's! LOL! We did it once and thought it was kind of creepy.

We stick to nice hotels.

Please no offense to quilters or Victorian lovers or B&B operators named Broom Hilda, it's just not everyone's cup of tea.

I agree with both of you. The "foofiness" of the place in combination with the outrageously high prices means that the GF will be the last resort where I will stay at WDW.

Now the Contemporary ... that's my kind of place!

This is exactly what I think about the GF too, and I'm a woman, lol. The decor is not not not for me.

I don't know, I just feel instantly sexier over at the Polynesian, LOL!!!

I am so glad there are different resorts for different tastes.

OMG!!!! That is tooo funny!

We TIVO'd a Disney Cruise Line Special (along with every other Disney Travel Channel program). DD and I were watching it in my bedroom, DH came in and says "Let me guess.... you're watching something Disney...."

"Yes, of course, what else would we be watching? (It's either Disney or one of the Harry Potter movies if DD and I are watching something together.)

DD says "Daddy, you want to watch with us?"

DH, "Sure." (DH is really tired and wants to lay down, so he figures he can win a few brownie points with DD and get to lay down at the same time.)

So he watches, and then says, "Ya know, that Disney Cruise, doesn't look so bad, maybe we should go on one"

WHAT!!!!!!!!!!! That's all I needed to hear!

Of course you know what comes next, I started researching that night and by the end of the next day, we had our cruise booked.

Yes, I think your and my husband were separated at birth! Because, mine said the things that most appealed to him were the adult only areas (Carnival Cruise Lines don't have that) and Castaway Cay.

Not gonna argue about the Contemporary being U G L Y from the outside. The inside is very sleek and modern.

The Poly for me is the opposite, I think the outside looks awesome, but the inside kind of reminds me of "Brady Bunch Goes to Hawaii". The rooms have improved, they used to be really dark. I still LOVE the poly, and would not hesitate to stay there.

The GF I think is gorgeous, the outside is beautiful and serene, the public areas are stunning inside. I do think the rooms are a little too frilly for my taste, but I would not hesitate to stay there either. (probably will if my mom and I and DD go on a trip without DH)

Honestly, there is not a Disney Hotel, that I wouldn't stay at. I would enjoy them all, some maybe more than others, but enjoy them nonetheless.
