Funny Phone Calls

Just before five this morning, our phone rang. My mum picked it up and the person on the other end said that there was a taxi waiting outside for her. He said he was from a taxi firm that she frequently uses and correctly stated our address. When she said she had never ordered a taxi, he became angry and told her to stop messing him around at this time of the morning - he was really rough sounding and quite rude to her. He hung up and mum went straight downstairs to check on my Grandmother who we are carers for as she has been quite ill the past few nights. Her bedroom overlooks the street and mum noticed there was no car there. I also never heard anything pull away. When she went back to bed, I said to her that I didn't think that was a genuine call from a taxi company and we both agreed a few things didn't add up.
She called the company this morning and they confirmed they never sent a car out last night. They were quite concerned so mum called the nuisance calls bureau and notified the police. The police have made us more worried! They said it is concerning that this person knows our address, our telephone number and the taxi company we use. We don't recognize his voice either. Also, what if one of us had gone out to check if there really was a taxi out there? It could have been a trick and someone could have been out there. I'm a bit freaked out!

I know. There was a car with two men sat outside our house for an hour this morning and that made me all paranoid after the phonecall. I'm a little jumpy now, hope we don't get anymore calls or bother.

We think it could be something to do with our parents business. My mum had to turn a lady down for a job yesterday (she had been convicted of theft) and my mum thought this lady looked a bit and although she was really nice to my Dad, she wasn't very nice to my mum and she just made my mum feel a bit uncomfortable. Our name is in the phonebook and we have a weird last name so it would be easy enough to look up our address. Also the taxi company is in a different town to the one we live in - its the local taxi company for the business, the main taxi company for that town but not for our home address - and it would be the woman's local taxi company.
However, they also have one member of staff that has been with them for about eight years and we all loved her. Last year she started going out with a schizophrenic drug addict and since then she has slowly been going off the rails. Her personality has changed and all of her family have started taking drugs. She has started going out clubbing instead of coming to work and my parents realised they couldn't employ her anymore which has made them really sad as she wasn't like that at all until she met this idiot guy. She went off work with swine flu three weeks ago and hasn't come back but her ex (who she has a daughter with) told us they were all holed up in the house taking drugs and partying 24/7. He is a lovely bloke but him and her teenage daughter are now petrified of her. My dad said she would need a sick line for swine flu before she came back (its the rules of their inspectors) and she can't provide one because she was lying. My Dad spoke to her last night and told her her job is in jeopardy. They no longer wish to employ her but are trying to do everything above board so they don't end up with a tribunal. She is in with a bad lot so we are a bit worried its something to do with her, kind of like a warning. Thanks for your support everyone .

If you report the call to BT, they will probably be able to trace it for you. I did this years ago, because I had an 'odd' phone call and it turned out to be someone I worked with...
