Oh yeah, my grandfather used that stuff. Man did it sting! I believe it's ilegal now.

The other one he used, and I still swear by it today, was a strong-smelling linament called Balsam of Mhyrr. It is intended for use on horses, but it is great on cuts and burns. I have a bottle that is really old, but you use so little of it that it lasts forever.

My grandmother and one of my uncles used to eat small amounts of Vicks VapoRub claiming that it stopped coughing. As a kid I used to think that it may have stopped coughing but started a lot of gagging. Both of them died in their 60's and I have made it to 75 so far, just sayin'.

My mother used that stuff if I had cuts or scratches when I was a kid. I really don't remember it stinging all that much, a little yes, but it seems I would have remembered it if it were really bad. However, my favorite color is red so that might have influenced my tolerance. The disappointing thing was that it was red in the bottle but showed as orange on the skin.
