I know, right? It's like they still give you the claim checks too - but you really only need that if your bag gets lost or doesn't come out onto the conveyor belt. Otherwise, it's just whatever - and so many bags look alike!

Up to about 20 years ago PHL Philadelphia airport was the only one I can recall where you actually had to show your baggage claim receipt to an employee before you could leave the area.

But it’s not like they really matched your receipt to the tag on your bag. They usually just gave a quick glance.

DW & I went to NYC and had to present our claim ticket when leaving baggage claim at LaGuardia. This was in 2019.
