Funny comment about our new "non-cards"

I don't see the need to give them my credit card to be able to access my dvc card as proof. Not everyone wants their whole monetary info in the Google wallet or Apple wallet. I don't plan a on using it. I guess I am old school ! Not too trusting of businesses storing your data. 😃
I can't speak for Google Wallet but the apple version doesn't require any sort of credit card entry. It's just a digital ID card sitting in a digital wallet (as opposed to a plastic ID card in a leather wallet.)

Also, showed my DVC Digital Wallet during our April 2022 vacation with no problems. But the CM's had to take my phone back to the cash register to use my Digital Gift Card, which I wasn't to happy about. Don't know why they couldn't scan it at the table, is a pretty big security issue for guests.

Wonder how they would react if you went with them, LOL? You know, "Where this phone goes, I go!"

I did at Geyser Point because the CM asked me to, but it is a lot easier there because the cash register is at the end of the bar. Might just bring a plastic gift card next time, and use that and check the balances after....... grrrrr.

Did you open a "wallet" that required you to give a credit card? If not, I would love to know how to do that.

The android implementation requires Gpay, which is google's wallet. The only thing in my wallet is the DVC membership card. I showed her the "details" of the DVC membership card in the Gpay wallet, which showed "DVC Y". She gave me the discount, and I paid with a magic band.

I think it's incredibly stupid to not implement the discount by swiping the magic band, and instead having to use a third party app, linked to from MDE, to show that you are discount eligible. But, this is Disney IT. The meeting where the decision was made probably went like this:
Disney exec: People are getting DVC discounts that aren't eligible.
DVC exec: We issue them cards. It's your CMs who are doing it.
Disney exec: Your cards are good for 5 years, so people who are not longer DVC members are getting the discount. Can't you come up with some way to verify the card?
DVC exec: How about you change your point of sale terminals to recognize DVC discounts when a magic band is used for payment?
Disney IT: That would cost a billion dollars and wouldn't be done in our lifetimes.
DVC exec: We can issue everyone a new plastic card with an NFC chip in it. You can scan it for the discount, do a back end lookup, and know if they are eligible.
Disney IT: That would require adding a new option to the scanners, a new webservice, and some middleware. We might be able to do that for half a billion dollars, but it still wouldn't be done in our lifetimes.
DVC exec: What would you suggest?
Disney IT: I can have my app guy connect to wallet services and produce a QR or bar code. The POS can scan that just like a regular product and give the discount.
DVC exec: That sounds good, but what about the people without smart phones?
Disney IT: Do you know anyone without a smart phone? I don't.
DVC exec: We have some members without smart phones, for sure.
Disney exec: They can use the MDE website and show their card on their smart phone. Oh... They can print the card from the website and just show that.
DVC exec: Ok, how long until this happens?
Disney IT: We need to reprogram the point of sale, so a year?
DVC exec: Our cards expire in 6 months.
Disney IT: We can put the eligibility for discounts into the wallet, and people can show the details to the CM to get the discount.
Disney exec: Perfect
DVC exec: But isn't this a mess for our members?
Disney IT: I'm not sure we can be done in 6 months.
Disney exec: It's a perfect solution. Let's move on. You'll figure it out together.

I suspect its more of a POS issue with the software not being able to read digital discount eligibility. At a minimum, this impacts systems throughout Walt Disney World--including third party vendors who offer DVC discounts--Vero, Hilton Head, Aulani, Disneyland and more. There aren't even standardizations between WDW and DL at this point.

Unless touch verification is offered at ALL discount points, it's not a workable solution. Visual inspection of the digital card is. Hopefully locations will eventually roll out support for touch verification, which could be retroactively applied to magic bands.

TBH, the new card is sooooo stupid. At Aualni is was such a mess. They wont accept the digital card you download from the site, you have to have a QR code in your apple wallet that's fairly hidden, so much so that they have a person dedicated to helping people figure it out. You have to go to the DVC sales office for said help which sure seems convenient.

Yeah, it took me a few minutes to figure out where that QR code was on my iphone, nothing about the Apple Wallet is intuitive.

FWIW, My trip a couple weeks ago, the DVC digital card was easy to use. Just showed the CM where it says DVC Y on my phone and they did the discount. Very little fuss.

OMG, we wouldn’t know how to do that. We just took a screen shot of the card and used that. Most CMs we encountered just took a brief glance at the picture. One asked for photo ID, and one just looked at the slider on my MB.

When we were at WDW last week the CM had to show me how to get to the QR code the first time I tried to use it! LOL!!!
