Hello All,
I remember a while back there was a thread going around about memorable ride breakdowns. I can't seem to find it, in fact at one point my eyes started to cross from the search. lol So, with apologies, I am starting a new one.
Myself and 3 of my girlfriends were most recently at WDW Jan 17th-21st.
Star Tours broke down for a few when we rode it but it was pretty funny.
We were all strapped in, ready to ride and the robot (I forget his name!!) had just finished his introduction. The lights dimmed and the screen came down as the robot sid "Sit back and relax..it should be a smooth ride to Endon!" (I know, I paraphrased!) and RIGHT after he said that, the whole ride slammed violently to the right. I thought to myself "wow..this ride wasn't as crazy all the other times I rode it..." and then the screen went back up and the lights came on and we were stuck there for about 10 mins (or less) before they could get the ride going again. For the rest of the trip one of us would randomly say "Its looks like it should be a smooth ride to Endon...BAM" and we would all crack up.
Interestingly enough, in that same trip we also got stuck on Snow White. We were stuck on that one for a LONG time. We got stuck in the forest. Thankfully after 10 mins of having to hear birds and owls they shut the music off. In between a CM saying "Attention Snow White, Attention Snow White..please remain seated.." we shouted back and forth with another party who was stranded on the other side of the woods. After a while when the ride finally started again it would move for about a foot and then stop again. My sides hurt from laughter after that one. At least they gave out free FPasses for any ride after we got off!
And lastly, this isn't really a breakdown but I've started a mental list of all the areas that I've been stuck in on Spaceship:Earth while they stop the ride to accomodate wheelchairs and such. I want to get "stuck" in every area. I only have a few more to hit. ha ha!

Pirates broke down last year while we were on it. We were in the room where they are auctioning off the ladies for about 20 minutes. We hears "We wants the red head" so many times it was stuck in our heads for a long time. Every time my daughter and I see a red head we look at each other and repeat "We wants the red head".

About ten years or so ago we went with my cousin who had never been to EPCOT before and took her on the ride in Norway... well, she hates hieghts, etc... and wouldn't you know that it broke down on the way up the hill, you know the part with all the lasers, etc... she was screaming that it was going to break and we would all go backwards. I was thinking we were going to need EMS if we were stuck there any longer. Poor thing! Of course we all laughed because we knew it was never going to go backwards.

Lats trip we were on Test Track when it broke down. We stpped right in front of the Semi. Flahing lights and that loud horn, i thought my head would explode. We did end up walking off the ride, very interesting with the lights on.

When I was in college, a sorority sister and I visited the World.... We were on Peter Pan's Flight, (I know...I know...we were a little old, but it was our goal to ride EVERY single ride at the parks!! ), and sure enough...the ride broke down midway through. We sat in the dark for about 10 minutes, and kept staring at the 'city' which appeared far, far below is, glowing in neon. Then, the lights came on...and what a shocker! We were only about a foot off the floor; we thought we were SOOOOOOO high when it was dark!!! We were stuck on that ride for a good 20 minutes, but when you're determined to hit EVERY ride in the park, and time is crucial, it seemed like hours!!!

We joked the rest of the trip about how it wasn't "Never, Never Land", but more like "Never, Never Ending Ride!" :rotfl2:

These are hilarious! Luckily *knocks on wood* nothing like that has happened to us-yet!

We broke down on the old Journey into Imagination ride & a couple cars ahead of us was a family of 4 - Mom, Dad & 2 kids. Well, the kids were just fine - but Mom & Dad were really losing it! They kept crying out "What if we're stuck here forever?!" After about 5 minutes of the parents panicking, the children started to cry - then the parents whipped them out of the vehicle & started walking down the track...

They did get back in a vehicle, right in front of us. Ack! Eventually the lights came on & they walked us out, thank God, because I thought those parents were about to explode. I'm sure the poor kids were traumatized for life - not by the break-down, but rather the parents reaction to it.

It wasn't haha funny, more like "What is wrong with these people" funny....The thing is, we were all excited about walking out & getting to see the attraction with the lights on. Wish they could have had their glass half full too......

I guess this is kinda funny.... I hate the little ghost that pop up on HM but it seems everytime we are "interupted by the spirits" my doom buggie always stops right there... ahhh!

My funniest moment was almost 10 years ago. We were in Cranium Commando with my sons and a couple of their cousins. The show with Buzzy broke down just as we were sitting there. The CM started telling trivia questions and then asked if anyone had a question for the audience. My nephew got up and instead of a question started singing Twinkle, Twinkle Little Star. We have never laughed so hard as this 11 year old is up there singing this nursery rhyme.

it's not really funny but once we broke down on test track and we were at the part before the truck comes at you in the tunnel in the dark for about 5-10 mins
when it started again we were worried about crashing into the wall (this was our 3rd ride so we knew what happened)

We've been on several rides that have had minor breakdowns, but the memorable one was on Winnie the Pooh right in the Tigger bouncing part. A tech appeared and told my 4-year-old "cross your fingers". After a few minutes, he got the ride operating again. But whenever we get on WP now (and that was, oh, 800 times last week. :rotfl: ), DS always says "crossing my fingers" and crosses as many as he can.

Well, we now know all the words to the POTC song thanks to spending 25 min with those bloody pirates and their trusty little dog:duck:

Shortly after ToT opened, DH and DS were on it when the elevator stopped at the highest point, then a voice came on and said that something had gone wrong, to remain seated, and the ride was lowered slowly down. DH and DS figured this was part of the ride and complained about the slow decent not being the drop they'd hoped for. The CM got them all out, they went back and got another ride-then they learned what the drop REALLY was!

A few years ago when we were down for a night at the MVMCP we were there with my mother in law who was leery about rides in the first place, let alone at night and a night that was hovering in the 30's. We talked her into going onto Splash Mountain w/ us and we told her that she would'nt get much splash if she sat in the back. Well, in the jumping waters room, the jumping waters weren't jumping, instead, one of the jets was aimed directly at our heads and was not turning off, needless to say we were all soaked! Then on the big lift hill the ride stops, and we are next to go over the top, after a few minutes we didn't think anything of it until we hit the pond at the bottom, where all of the water had been piling up w/ no logs splashing water out before us the wave going over us was like going under a waterfall the hard way, not just seeing the back side of water. At this point my MIL is just about to kill me, I was glad I was in the front seat, when how could it get anyworse, but the ride stops again and we are under the little waterfall just before the last small drop into the paddlewheel room and you guessed it the log is stuck w/ my MIL right under the waterfall and we were there for 20 minutes! We watched the shadows of the christmas parade on the mountain above us as we sat there getting even more soaked. Needless to say, my MIL now will no longer believe anything I say regarding a ride experience. I can't wait for another year when I get to go again w/her and the family! :umbrella:

In 1970, two friends and I were on the brand-new 'It's A Small World' ride in Disneyland. We'd just taken a 'cosmic break' on the Tomorrowland Skyway before climbing into IASW. The ride broke down four times, each break lasting 10-15 minutes. It seemed like our boat always stalled in between two languages, so that we'd hear that infernal song in Portugese/French for ten minutes, then move on to the next combination, none of which made any sense to me.

I've since been on that ride at WDW three times when our daughter was young. I found that if I took a Prozac an hour before each ride, my hands didn't shake nearly as much, and the panic attacks were minimal. ;)

Last trip we were stuck on space mountain. They turned on the lights and we sat there for about 10 minutes. When they loaded the ride, I was in the last seat of the first car and my husband was in the first seat of the second. We took pictures of eachother and he took a picture of the CM push my car. It is hysterical.

DH and I got stuck on Splash Mt. this past October during MNSSHP. Truthfully, I'm not a big fan of Splash Mt. but it's one of DH's favorite rides and since we were there on our honeymoon, I thought it would be a nice gesture to go on with him. Well, we are no sooner on when the ride stops....we're right near a CM and I said "I want to get off." She said I can't let you off because then we would have to let everyone off. Meanwhile, I'm thinking, well, if the ride is malfunctioning, you SHOULD let everyone off, but knowing Disney would not do anything to harm guests, I tried to be a good sport about it. DH tried to calm me down but at this point I was not having any part of it. The ride starts again after about a 10 min. wait and we are going along, DH is trying to enjoy the ride but with me next to him complaining that I can't wait to get off this thing, I am not sure how much enjoyment he actually had. We make it into the Mt., just about to go up the big hill for the big drop and sure enough, the ride stops again. This time I said to DH, I cannot take this anymore, I want out. Fortunately, the CMs determined that there really was something significant wrong with the ride so we all got evacuated. That was kind of a cool experience because we got to go "behind the scenes" and see Splash Mt. from the back.....as a side note, we took the Keys to the Kingdom tour the next day and went behind Splash again and told our group the story from the night before.....I felt bad for DH that the ride broke down and I panicked...he was great though :) We were there last week and he rode Splash by himself....I stood on the bridge overlooking the big drop and waved :)

Fortunately we haven't gotten "stuck" on a ride, but lemme tell you.. going through Splash mountain with no sound is really VERY creepy. All those llittle lifeless animatronics is not something I want to experience again! :teeth:

Not necessarily funny but...

On Haunted Mansion we have stopped in just about every section of the ride but on one trip we were stopped in the final graveyard scene when the sound was turned off(no music or creepy noises). We were right infront of the 2 or 3 ghosts(men) standing under a tree playing their horns (when they hit a high note the owl on the branch above them's head shoots up). Well it wasn't until the sound was totally turned off that I realized that real air must be blowing through the mouth of one of the ghosts because as they all kept moving with no sound his horn was the only one still blowing every time he bobbed his head and we were so close I could hear the air being pushed through the instrument ;)

The other big stop was on TOT. We made it all the way to the top to the part where your elevator begins to move forward and were positioned infront of the dark wall about to move into the elevator shaft for the big drop when all of the sudden all of the lights and sound went out :earseek: A few minutes later a CM came out with a flashlight and informed us they were having technical difficulties and he was going to escort us off of the ride so they could reset it. He opened the front and we all walked along a short track to what looks like the chicken elevator (a real elevator you stand in). We exited on the bottom floor and he took us through a backdoor to the boiler room to reboard. it was a neat experience to get to see some of the Tower with the lights on

We once got stuck on Splash on th way up to the big drop.... we sat there as the vultures kept talking....well whatever it is that they do.... And when I was small, at Knotts my dad got stuck on Montezuma's Revenge upside down..... for an hour :sad2: I'm luck that hasen't happened to me yet :goodvibes ..
