Funniest or Strangest reason for ride interruption

CoP, someone in another room tried to get out before it was over. They stopped the show/attraction and we had to watch our room again. I prayed that the same person didn't try to escape again. I don't think I could handle a 3rd showing of the same room. The CM was kind enough not to make us listen to the whole thing again and turned the sound off.

HAhahahahaha. Some people do the weirdest things on rides! It is EVIDENT why Splash Mountain was finally fitted with lap bars that I HATE.

My strangest ride closing? Well, it was on the Magic Kingdom railroad. The train had slowed down in one of the forest areas because a train up ahead hadn't cleared the station and a teenage boy a car ahead of us decided he'd get off the train and go explore. The conductor went tearing off after him. I'm assuming the boy went to security, because twenty or so minutes later the conductor came back on his own and we went on our way.

In DL's It's a Small World. It was an all girl's trip of my two DSis(in their late teens), my DD, and me. I had noticed that our boat was slowing down at about the half way point. Sure enough, it came to a compete stop 3/4's the way through. My sis's, DD, and I just looked at each other with "holy crap, we're stuck on IASW" looks on our faces. After not hearing anything from "The Voice", I looked around to assess our situation. The banks of the canal were within arm's reach so I told my sisters to reach out and push off the edge. After sufficiant momentem was restored, we made it safely (and sainly) out of the tunnel.

Please tell me this is a sick joke. I mean why would someone want their remains poured onto a spot where a janitor will sweep them up eventually? That's just... I don't even know how to describe my shock/disgust. It sounds no different from pouring a person's ashes in a trash can! I can't believe people do this.

It is a last wish for many people to have their ashes spread at Disney. I don't think the person is thinking about the ashes being vacuumed up later.

It would be wise for Disney to set up a place for that, like an ashes repository or a compost pile that will end up spread on the foliage. Granted, I don't know how legal those options are, but there must be some legit way to celebrate the former mousketeers of this world.

2008, we were on our third ride of the Safari. We stopped and I thought I was super lucky and got some great pictures.... eventually we started and then had to stop again. The second stop was a longish time. The ride operator explained to us that an ostrich was trying to peck or poke at the ride vehicles and kept on blocking the road.

I thought it pretty funny that a rogue ostrich was trying to play chicken with the vehicles.

I basically figured that these rides all had to have "eyes in the sky" and "voices in the sky".....so how come they don't yell at the people that uses flash cameras and bright video screens on their recorders on the dark rides....cuz they drive me nutso and I'd love to see them dumped off the rides

I would not be able to not quote all of "Jurassic Park". ALL of it.

(Seriously, though that would freak me out; I am anxious when I ride through a flock of turkeys, so...)

As for stories... I may know someone who knows someone who almost got kicked off ToT because they decided to flip the bird at the Mouse in their picture. They did not get kicked off the ride, but they did get a taste of how scary efficient Disney's security guards are.

More recently, I got dragged into Ellen's Energy Adventure right around the time (a) gas prices were getting really unreasonable and (b) the BP oil spill had just happened. As you may know, EEA might as well be retitled "I Love Fossil Fuels". What struck me is that every time we entered a new theater/level of Ellen's crazy Bill Nye Jeopardy dream, an announcer came on saying, "Please do not leave your ride vehicle". Which implies that people were so fed up with this mess of an attraction that they were *walking out of the theater*. Can't say I wouldn't join them, but that earlier post about what is going on beneath your ride theater vehicle was... well, walking out would be a bad idea.

Probably because it happens so often that they would have to constantly make announcements and stop the rides. (Not to mention the photographers would probably just use the stop to take more pictures, thus defeating the purpose of stopping the ride to get people to stop the offending behavior...) The cast members probably figure the flashes and bright screens are at least somewhat less annoying than that, although I completely agree with you about the lack of consideration some people exhibit.
Can you imagine what it must be like to be one of those CMs that supervises behavior on the rides? The things they must see...

Now I'll warn you there is some naughty language and, more importantly, things you can never un-read. But some theme park employees (and visitors too) have shared stories of... interesting people they have encountered on the job here. Overall, it looks like if you want to witness some astonishing public behavior, just add water.

A few weeks ago on Soarin', "the voice" did come overhead to tell someone to stop photographing. That was the first I've heard that during the ride.

It was our Christmas Vacation 2008 and we were at Mickey's Very Merry Christmas at the Magic Kingdom. We were on the TTA People Mover, me, my brother and a friend in one cart. Once there was a dark stretch of ride, my friend decides to hop out of the cart and run along side of the moving vehicle. When he hopped back in the cart he had thought he got away with it but the ride suddenly stopped. We knew it was because what he had done. After 5 minutes Cast Members came out of a random door and said that the censor's had gone off in our corridor. So my friend says, "Excuse me sir but my santa hat fell off so I hopped out of the ride to grab it, i'm sorry." Well that was a lie of course, and they rambled on about how it is not safe to do that and just tell a cast member at the end of the ride. At the end of it all we were stuck for about 15 minutes and at the end of the ride they gave everyone fast passes for any ride of choice. So we were the one's who acted like idiots, and we got fast passes.

Last year we were on Splash Mountain and we had just gone down the big drop and were coming around to go back inside the "mountain". The teenagers in front of us decided to all be funny and jump out of the log and run across the attraction to jump the fence. There were security that magically came out of somewhere and gave them a what for.

I don't know if this shuts down rides at the time, but I did read once that people spread loved one's ashes in rides. Once CM's find out they shut it down to clean it up.

I remember quite a few years ago we went on Alien Encounter and there was a large group from a well-known South American country in our theater. The CM's had to warm them in the pre-show because they were screaming in the pre-show when nothing scary happens... They had to stop the real show a few times because the girls were screaming throughout the thing, and I think one was trying to slide out from under the harness...

Also once we were on WedWay and they stopped the ride because some moron got out of the car and starting running on the track...

My friend did that before, what date did this happen? The wedway story?

My sister was studying in Paris for a semester and I went to visit her the last week of '96. We spent one day at Disneyland Paris and I remember that it was unseasonably cold that week and everyone kept talking about how it was never that cold. It felt so funny to be walking around a Disney park so bundled up! I remember that we stood in line forever to ride the Indiana Jones rollercoaster and it kept stopping or breaking down because of ice on the tracks. I can't remember if part of the ride went through water to help slow it down or what, but the water kept freezing over the tracks and they would have to stop the ride and thaw it again. The ride wasn't stopped because of a person per say unless you count that beautiful mother nature. I kept thinking how it was some design flaw if they ran the risk of the ride shutting down due to the weather like that. But again, it was really cold that week. After about two and half hours of freezing in line, we got to ride.

A couple of years ago while at Epcot during spring break the Ellen ride was shut down. We asked the CM what had happened and he explained that someone had decided that he'd had enough of energy and jumped ship. He explained that when that happens, the whole ride shuts down and it takes about 30-40 minutes to reset it. Talk about a waste of energy, kind of ironic. That is why you always hear the announcement that the ride will take a certain amount of time to complete and if you are unable to commit to that time to not ride.

You see, the people who are responsible for these stories is what caused Splash Mountain to get ride restraints.
