Funky Colored Hair Stripe?

Make sure you get a dye and not a stain. We stained my DD's hair with pink streaks and after a year she got tired of them. I took her to my beautician to take them out and you wouldn't believe what hell that was. Color remover didn't work so she dyed her hair all over and then put highlights in. The pink darkened but you could still see it. Her hair was beautiful with all the blonde/reddish highlights after but no way was I paying for that again. lol I don't even do that for my own hair. DD's hair is a blond/brown.

My 10 year old wants to have a colored stripe in her blondish hair (her school is OK with it, BTW). I went to Sally Beauty Supply and she picked out a blue color. Then, they told me that the semi-permanent hair color wouldn't "take" and that I would have to bleach my DD's hair first. I didn't want to do anything so drastic and I wanted it to eventually (after a month or two) wash out. Does anyone have experience with medium blond hair and funky colors?

We were just at Claire's yesterday and they have pin in strips of colored hair (halloween colors, also), that were really, really cool.

If you want to go the strip route, use the Jolen creme bleach that people use for their upper lip. That will make the hair so porous that the blue will just get really sucked into it. Fries the hair though...

So ... do I have to bleach for red or pink? I think she'll settle for those colors.

looking at your daughter's hair color in your siggy, I'd say not. the red or pink may not turn out quite as vibrant, but it will come out better than the blue would on non bleached hair. It would still look good.

We bleached for my DDs red, and we bleached for DDs blue, both of my girls have light hair but the stylist said bleaching it would make the color stay true longer. Here's a link to what we used (I hope this is allowed), it's Beyond the Zone color.

I somehow convinced my mom to let me dye 2 stripes of my blonde hair hot pink (and regretted later- whew, pictures!!).

I did have to bleach my hair- it wasn't a huge deal except for the fact that it took a really long time to grow out.. not only did I wait for the pink to disappear but I had to wait for the bleach to grow out. Honestly, the bleach looked better than the pink so I wound up leaving the bleach in for a little while and thought I was a pretty cool 12 year old.

OP, if you're okay with it and the school is okay with it, I'd let her do it. It's fun and if worse comes to worse, you can always dye it back to match the blonde!

I got the L'Oreal Colour Rays http://www.drugstore.com/templates/...ndFilter=52988&trx=29985&trxp1=130693&trxp2=2

They don't have it in blue though. I did my daughter's in fuschia and it came out great! Her hair is a light, light brown. The color has a built-in bleach (peroxide?) and the color takes right over it. I just did the color around her face. I did it at the end of July and it faded gradually. You can still see some pink, but it's actually fading out to blonde, so it's like highlights! I was kind of worried we'd have to color over it, but it really doesn't look bad at all as it fades.

My DS's girlfriend recommended it to me. She has a shoulder length bob and does the underneath of her hair in the bright red. It always looks nice.

I'd definitely buy it again for her!

I use Special Effects dye. It stays really bright for a really long time...
