Funerals on a Sunday?

1st time I got married was on a Sunday
2nd time was on a Sunday
3rd time was a Tuesday night


Never heard of a funeral on a Sunday though

DH is a minister and around here, NE Ohio, it costs more money to have the grave opened on a Sunday so that's why most funerals are not on Sunday.

Sorry to hear of your loss.

I have been to one Sunday funeral. It was for my uncle about 4 years ago.

The family decided to have it on Sunday afternoon due to people coming in from out of town, plus the farmers were working on Saturday.
My aunt and uncle belong to the Morovian Church. Not sure if I spelled that correctly, but I think they do Sunday funerals anyway.

Thankyou for the kind thoughts and confirmation that yes, there are funerals on Sundays!

Isn't it funny that even things like that can be area-specific?

I'm not sure yet why this funeral is being held on a Sun but we're so glad it is. My husband can't miss a single day of school or he loses his unemployment benefits under the special program he's registered with. If the funeral were on a Monday, he wouldn't have been able to attend.

Many Jewish weddings and funerals are on Sunday since the Sabbath is Friday night till Saturday night so funerals and weddings can't be during that time.

When I got married we had to wait till after sundown on SAturday night.

My sympathies for your loss. My Grandmother was buried on a Sunday afternoon in Missouri. My dad and my Aunt actually planned it that way because two of her four grandchildren lived in rural areas in Wyoming and Idaho-and getting a ticket, getting to the airport and getting there was difficult so the had the funeral on Sunday rather than Sat to give them an extra day to travel

We had a relative die early Friday morning but his funeral isnt until Tuesday. I sooooo wish it would have been held on Sunday instead. He had everything preplanned and his only relatives all live within 60 minutes so I'm not sure why its not until Tuesday at 2. Most likely I'll have to miss the funeral since I wont be able to make it home before DS gets home from school.
