Fundraisers...ugh!

Why doesn't the PTA/PTO sent out a letter at the beginning of the year stating in leiu of fundraisers they are asking every family to contribute x amount (not per student, just per family). If they asked each family to contribute $20 or $30 for the year and they had 500 students they would get $10k. You can't tell me that these fundraisers clear that much for the school.

It's a nice thought but our school is so small...we've got less than 150 students in K-8. Out of those 150 students there are less than 100 families. If each family gave $30 that's only $3,000. We usually manage to fundraise about $8,000 - $10,000 a year but it's a LOT of work. Plus, we're in a very rural country area and a lot of the area is below the poverty level and, unfortunately, about a third of our families would not be able to send in $30! So, back to fundraising! :confused3

BTW - Anyone want to buy a raffle ticket??? :rotfl:

I just saw a new fundraiser that I'm going to be suggesting to our PTO. It's a National Coney Island Kit- if memory serves it is $29, has the hot dogs, chili, buns, mustard, onion-that you can prepare at home. Believe it had enough for 16-24 coney dogs.

I also don't mind the Little Ceasers' pizza kits. There frozen with all the ingriendents to make 3 pizzas. the kids' like to make these at home.

My DS's school is right now doing the only fund raiser I've ever enjoyed. They are using marketday.com and you can place an order every month. (It is a year long fund raiser) It's groceries! So I bought burgers and chicken breasts and string cheese - for just about what I'd pay at the store - sometimes less. And the school keeps 10 percent! I order on-line and will go to the school to pick up the box. I highly recommend it.

Naturally no sooner had I thought the school made a great choice than home came the catalog o' cr*p. I bought one sceneted candle so he could help his class get a good percentage of participation but that's it. And they had the that pump up assembly which is terrible IMHO.

We do Market Day too. When I ran the school fund raiser I refused to have those kick-off assemblies, and the prizes the kids got were sportswear with the district logo on it. The school got a lower percentage of the sales, but the hats and T-shirts were better awards at least. DD was mad at me because I would not let her bug the neighbors to buy the stuff this year. Only GS cookies and the BS popcorn should be sold door-to-door in my opinion.

So please consider giving money-your fundraiser won't look down on that-they will be thrilled! To make $100, a fundraiser basically has to sell about $700-$1000 worth of stuff....
Most of our fundraisers have 40-50% profit, so we only have to sell $200-250 to get $100. Of course it is overpriced junk...
