From the 12/11/04 Magic and inspired by Grumbo. Multiple pictures shot with a Nikon D100 and stitched together. The originals are very, very large - 14-20 megapixels.

More to come. :)

Very nice pix, especially when the landscape around here is snow covered. :D

Nice pics there Sam!!! :D

Thanks Andy!

BTW, I saw your flashing lights on the 11th at Port Canaveral. Unfortunately, the ship was delayed so I had to be in my stateroom getting ready for my early dinner seating. I had my face smashed against my deck 2, forward porthole when I saw you - or at least your mom's car.

Beautiful photos smchan. What software do you use to stitch them? Do you have a fisheye lens?

I used a Nikon 17-55/2.8 DX lens at various focal lengths (typically around 20mm) and stitched with The Panorama Factory. For panning, I used the panorama head and extender bar from Really Right Stuff.

I've also used a Nikon 50/1.4 lens for my panoramas with excellent results.

As for a fisheye, I want a Nikon 10.5/2.8 DX fisheye and shopped for one while on the cruise but found the prices to be anywhere from outrageous ($100-$200 more than retail in the states) to merely competitive - $575 was the best I found vs $569 through state-side mail order.

If I have one more merchant pull out a calculator to figure up a price on a product, I think I'll puke. :(

Ooooooooo! Nice pictures! I tried to do something like that in Cozumel, just taped the pictures together and held them up in a semi-circle in front of my face. Best I could do. I like yours better!

Funny, that piece of glass is on my wish list too. Honestly, I don't think we'll find a lower price than $570 or so unless Nikon offers a rebate in the future. From all of the reviews I've read, sample pics I've seen, and first-hand experience that has been related to me, it would seem that the lens is priced very fairly.

Hi Sam,

Yep!!! My mom was in her car flashing the car lights (and staying warm), while I was on the shore line (shivering) taking some photos of the ship sailing past. It's a shame the ship left so late, most of the photos I took were very dark.

You're right - I was thinking I'd seen it for $569 - but in fact it's $589 at my usual source, KEH.com. Also, I didn't try to negotiate so better prices might be possible. I also didn't check on whether the lens had a USA warranty or not.

If you go on the Eastern, talk to Sasha from Croatia in Palo. He's a camera buff, though he recently switched to the dark side (Canon!). He said he knows all the camera stores and can recommend where to get the deals. One I remember is Royal Caribbean in St Thomas.

It was cold and snowy on CC last Friday as well!

But that didn't stop me from going snorkeling. :)

Was trying to link back to photos in Webshot albums, but not working. Will try host photos elsewhere.
