My Mom, DD (10) and I are flying down to Dallas next Wednesday (6/11) to visit Grandma (coming back on 6/27). Grandma had a stroke a couple of years ago and is in an assisted living facility. We will be staying in Bedford with my Aunt and Uncle. I know we will go see Grandma everyday that we are there - I also know that my Mom and my Aunt both have fibromyalgia (sp) and take frequent naps in the afternoons (especially when it is hot) - my Uncle works - so I'm trying to think of a few things that DD and I can do during the day - I will have a rental car.

Can anyone tell me about the Dallas Zoo? Aquarium? I'm sure there are loads of things to do - just need my DIS pals to point us in the right direction!

Thanks!

I don't know if your DD is into American Girl, but there's a store & bistro at the Galleria. I'm in Euless which is a neighbor to Bedford. If you're going to do a zoo I'd pick the Ft. Worth Zoo. (www.fortworthzoo.com)

You're not far from Six Flags and Hurricane Harbor as well. There is a small city waterpark close to Bedford too, NRH2O. (http://www.nrh20.com/)

If you're into shopping, movies, etc there is Southlake Town Center not too far that has a good selection of stores, a theater, B&N, Cheesecake Factory, etc. (http://www.southlaketownsquare.com/)

There are two aquariums in town, you'll want to visit the Dallas World Aquarium if you go. It's really nice. (http://www.dwazoo.com/default.html)

I'll try to think of other stuff too.

Thanks alot for all of the suggestions!

The Cowgirl Museum sounds cool! Madi loves Aquariums so we will put that on the list too!

I should look at a map - didn't realize the proximity to Ft. Worth. I will definitely check out all of the links you guys have provided.

Thanks!

Don't accidently go to the aquarium in fair park. It's pretty bad. Make sure that you're downtown by the West End. Lots of restaurants there by the way, if you want to include lunch.

Have fun!

:lmao:
Yeah, that's for sure!

DisneyMiss, the Dallas World Aquarium is really good, make sure you don't miss the sea dragons.

We went to some park in Dallas where they have all these old houses etc. Can't come up with the name right now, but I really liked it!
I also love shopping at Grapevine Mills.
Stockyards are a lot of fun, you can take a steam train from there to Grapevine and back.

If you're into some history, there's the sixth floor musum too.

I think that the Fort Worth zoo is better than the Dallas zoo. Bedford is closer to Fort Worth than Dallas so I'd check out that zoo.

Go to the Bureau of Engraving and Printing which is one of only 2 places where paper money is made. Tours are Mon-Fri and they are free. Well worth the visit and not very far from Bedford.

Definitely go to the Stockyards and the Ft. Worth zoo. Eat at Joe T. Garcia's near the Stockyards for the best Mexican food.

Other ideas:

Ripley's Believe it or not and the wax museum
Dallas World Aquarium
Sixth floor museum
Six Flags
Hurricane Harbor
NRH2O

You didn't ask about restaurants, but if you like fried chicken then you have to eat at Babe's in Roanoke. They have the best fried chicken anywhere and the atmosphere is great too!

I'm  all of your ideas!

I can't wait to show Madison tonight!

Thanks everyone for your suggestions - we will definitely be taking in some of these cool sites that you have pointed out!

Some museum options include the Dallas Museum of Art (Free every Thursday 5-9pm when they also have Jazz in the Atrium, and Free every 1st Tuesday - be sure to have $5 CASH handy to get out of the parking garage), the Modern Art Museum of Fort Worth (Free every Wednesday and every 1st Sunday), and the Kimball Art Museum (always Free).

Keep in mind that some special exhibits may require separate admission $.

There's also the Fort Worth Botanic Gardens that are really inexpensive to visit, and the Dallas Arboretum that has a buy one get one free admission coupon for Wednesdays on its website.

Babe's in Roanoke.

Be advised that Joe T's is CASH ONLY!!! And they have THE BEST margaritas!!

Babe's is also fantastic!! Just be prepared to wait if eating there or just get it to go!

Hey everyone! Just wanted you to know that we are here!! We can't wait to start touring!

Today we are having lunch with my Grandma and then going to Grapevine Mills - tomorrow the Aquarium (Dallas World!) Over the weekend we plan to hit the Ft. Worth Stockyards - The Cowgirl Museum and on Monday we are heading to the Fort Worth Zoo!

I appreciate everyone's suggestions! Thanks!

If you know of anywhere that have discount coupons for the attractions I would certainly love to hear that!

Thanks again!
