Thursday March 29th
Weather ~ hot, sunny 82*F
After breakfast on the balcony we took the Suncoast Beach trolley bus up to Clearwater Beach.
Back in 2006 we had seen an item on the news about a little dolphin that had lost her tail and decided we would go to visit her. The trolley bus took about an hour and it was very interesting seeing the various resorts/hotels/houses en route. Once we arrived we managed (eventually
) to find out where the Aquarium was and it took about half-an-hour to walk there.
The Aquarium was a very worthwhile place to visit ~ ideal for spending a couple of hours at or, if you are dolphin-mad like Danielle, even longer.
We watched a dolphin presentation with Nicholas and Indy, who were found stranded as babies, and enjoyed looking at the otters, turtles and stingray.
The first two photos are of Panama who became sick after begging fish bait off fisherman’s boats
and this is dear little Winter who lost her tail after becoming entangled in a crab trap. It was not thought that she would survive but she did and is now being fitted with a prosthetic tail.
After spending a lovely time here we found a bus stop and waited for a local trolley bus that tied up with the coastal one. We then had to wait for over an hour
for the coastal one (they are supposed to run every half hour
) so were very relieved when it eventually turned up!
Although it was an enjoyable experience taking the trolley bus it did take up a big chunk of our day so if we ever go this way again we will drive. I am glad we managed to see all the resorts on the way, they are now real places instead of just names on a map, but I did find Clearwater Beach very busy and touristy and am glad we chose to stay at St Pete Beach which, even though it was the busiest time of year, always seemed pretty much deserted.
When we got back to the hotel there was a wedding taking place on the beach so we enjoyed watching it from our balcony. What a wonderful, romantic setting.
Bryan and Samantha went out to get takeaway pizzas for dinner and we spent the rest of the day and evening on the beach and swimming in the pool. Of course I didn’t forget to capture the sunset again ~ it was even more spectacular for our last night!
Tomorrow ~ back to Orlando
via Fort de Soto Park and Busch Gardens!
