I saw a rumor elsewhere that it would be AKL...definitely not an exciting choice for me. I can't figure out how a decent savannah view would be obtained.

AKL is believable because it is so unexciting...it wouldn't be excessive competition against SSR if both were in the market at the same time yet it would draw out those who were dying to stay there.

I gotta go check out google earth...I still cant figure out where it would go.

This was discussed about six months ago on RADP. A poster who works for WDI said if you looked at Google Earth the location would be obvious, but would say no more. Most folks concluded AKL DVC would be located behind the bus stop with a pool view.
Another rumor has it that some sitework for AKL DVC was completed at the time AKL was constructed. Utiities are in place, and possiby the foundations. :surfweb:

I've been doing some research, and I think I've got this one figured out. If you look at all the satellite photos, you can see the one spot there there is a ton of "secret" construction going on. It's the old 20,000 Leagues spot in the MK.

Yes, the next DVC will be *in* the MK itself. How cool is that. That's also what the whole Dreams sweepstakes is all about. They want to practice having guests in the park at night.

:cool1: :thumbsup2 :rotfl: that would sell out fast party: :drinking:

I want a castle - how about between FW and Cont along the lake - over in that land that Disney uses for their junk......

or at Epcot (close to the kennel) - a resort with cannals... like Venice.

There is a thread on the Resort board about a new rumor. The thread was moved somewhere (I suppose rumor board ;) ) but in it the poster said he had heard the top two floors of the AKL were going to be DVC. :confused3

C'mon Tony.....do tell. :teeth:

The top two floors at AKL would be doubtful at best. The top floor has really lousy views and is the club level, the fifth floor is where they put everyone from the sixth floor that complains about the lousy view. Since the lobby of this hotel is on the third floor, that doesn't leave much space for the regular guests.

This turned up on another rumor board that shall be nameless...

I don't know how new this is...I searched but didn't find it. I talked with a friend of mine who is in a management-level position at the AKL yesterday, and she told me that Disney will be building DVC units at the AKL. She didn't know an exact timeline, but she said it had been announced to cast members and was no longer classified information. I thought the DVC members might be glad to hear about that!

I don't know about converting the 5th floor but rumor has it there were plans drawn up for a DVC building at AKL (along with all other WDW resorts). The building placement was near the bus stop and pool area slimilar to VWL.

...although they are moving CL guests to standard rooms for some future reservations.

Maybe it will be CRV (or is it VCR) and AKV (or is it VAK) BOTH at the same time! :bounce:

I can see from Google Earth why you'd pick the pool view...especially if you use an SSR/OKW style layout rather than a BWV/VWL/BCV layout. With that style you could put extra wings on both ends...one with a pool/small savannah view by (or even as a part of) the bus stop...and the other with a nifty dumpster view as you walk back to the main part of the lodge. Along with the dumpster view at your front door you would also get a very good Savannah view from your balcony.

The main problem with all of it I see is the Uzima pool...AKL would desparately need a quiet pool if DVC is built over there...or even an unquiet pool.

Not so far fetched since they are the two deluxes that could most use a DVC shot-in-the-arm.

I went back and checked. The original poster of that material confirmed the guess of the bus stop/pool location.

One other idea I've been thinking of is a DVC cruise ship, yes, an entire ship. That would really be a surprise. ;)

We were just talking about this very idea at the Summer Block Party yesterday.
Sign me up :thumbsup2

Someone just started another thread with this news from touringplans.com:

Quote:
Contemporary DVC coming - North garden Wing closes Oct 1st

The new DVC at the Contemporary Resort is all but a press release away at this point as the CM's at the hotel have been informed of the project. The North Garden Wing will close to the public on October 1st. A new DVC resort will be built in its place, the details of the exact design are still fuzzy and/or up in the air though.

One possibility mentioned to the CMs was a new 15 story C-shaped building with a central waterpark/pool area like the Yacht/Beach Clubs and a walkway on the 4th floor leading to the current concourse. This would explain the markings on the ground outside the current tower suggesting some sort of northward support system expansion.
