Fun or Romantic, which to choose? Date Night revisited

I posted a few weeks back asking for input on potential stops for a Monorail Pub Crawl. We're sending our DD to Lilo's one of the nights we're staying at the Poly and thanks to many on the Forum I got some great ideas. I planned on starting at Trader Sam's, hitting either the Bar at Citrico's or Mizner's, Geyser Point from the Ferry at CR and the California Grill Lounge. Haven't decided if we're better off watching the Fireworks from the Deck at the CR or at the Poly but leaning toward the CR since we haven't seen them from there yet. It will definitely be a fun evening.

Well last night a reservation at a good time opened up at the California Grill and I snagged it. My thought here was we'd still grab a drink somewhere prior to dinner then have a nice romantic meal with hopefully a beautiful sunset view and fireworks from the Deck later. For sure a bit more romantic than the previous scenario but maybe not as much fun.

I guess I'm just looking for opinions on which you'd prefer on a Date Night at Disney? I appreciate any and all input!

I'd prefer the fun itinerary to the romantic (dinner) one. I like small bites/plates rather than a big meal. After a big meal I fell stuffed - not romantic at all!

By hitting the different bars, you can eat & drink your way around the monorail. Plus, it's not something you can really do with DD.

My vote is for a fun date night too. DH & I don't have kids & the older we get (mid-late 40's) the more we realize we are sorta done with the fancy dinner thing on vacation & prefer apps & drinks. A dine around at Disney is perfect because you don't have to drive home so you can just go where the mood strikes you. We have a few dine arounds planned for our trip this time. (we'll be there in 4 days, can't wait!!)

Great! That's how I was leaning. The Mrs. said she's happy with whatever I decide so the decision is mine. I'm guess I'm a tinkerer and always looking for ways to improve the wheel lol.

13 more days!

I'm gonna vote for fun itinerary! I would think you might just have a good time checking out the different resorts, bars and drinks. I haven't eaten at the cal grill, but for the $$ the menu doesn't excite me. I would imagine that during your pub crawl you can just sample some apps at each place too. i think just the planning of what you are going to eat and drink at each bar would be fun.

This is a great idea!! And you can mix up the monorail with the boat (to WL or even FW-don't forget there's Crockett's Tavern and the area around the marina & the Settlement Post (by the marina) is a fun place-there's even a horse and carriage ride if you want to get romantic;) Have fun!

Fun - you can hire a babysitter and go to a fancy dinner at home.

Riding a monorail and having drinks in so many varied atmospheres - that's something that can be done in very few places.

I don't know. The idea of sharing an appetizer & drinks at the quieter lounges sounds more romantic to me than some situations you could run into at CG. I'd go the lounge route. Starting at Trader Sam's would be a fun way to start a romantic evening as you make your way to the quieter, more romantic lounges. You can always move on from a loud, chaotic bar. If you happen to be seated far from the windows near a bunch of loud drunks or ill behaved kids at CG, you're stuck.

I'd keep the reservation and just get apps and drinks so you'll have a GREAT spot for fireworks. I love the fireworks for MK up there best. Then you can still monorail crawl. Best of both worlds! Have a blast!

I really really love doing our meal at at CAlifornia grill so I guess I would try to do a little of both lol. I would probably choose to do dinner and then drinks and watch the fireworks now from the Poly beach

What about monorail crawl ending at Cali Grill for dessert and drinks and fireworks?

Yeah - you could do it like if you're more of an early evening type. Or start later and then keep the fun going if you're a night owl like me. Either way would be FUN! Can't wait to do this in late May!
