Fun, inexpensive day trip for DD10?

DD23 wants to take DD10 for a fun day out, either in NYC or LI. She was thinking a museum or something else that would be fun and attention holding (for a few hours), and special. Looking for something that won't break the bank and appeal to kids, probably on Memorial Day. Any suggestions?

What about adventureland in farmingdale? It is probably $20-$25 for a pop bracelet. How far on the island would she consider?

The NY Hall of Science in Queens is fun and inexpensive. If you go on a Sunday between 10 and 11 am...it is free!
