Fun Character Stories?

These are great stories!
I think Chip and Dale are hilarious!
It seems we see them the most when hardly anyone else is around.
One time they were down by the Internation Gateway entrance.
We were sitting on a bench watching as a little girl (maybe 12 years old) kept bugging them. Her parents must have been in the store and no one else was around.
I can't really remember what she was doing but it was obvious she was irritating them.
When she finally walked away, Chip acted like he was picking his nose and flicking it at her!!
Then he looked our way and sort of shrugged his shoulders.
It's funny how they can convey emotions without words. (but it's hard to explain in words)

Another time they were near the funnel cake booth by the American Pavilion. I put my purse down on the ground while fumbling with my camera.
One of them took my purse and went over to the booth. He held up 2 fingers to order 2 funnel cakes.

We will never forget the last day of our trip in May. It was extremely hot but thankfully the AP lounges were open. We went inside the AP lounge in Epcot & we were surprised that we were the only ones there.

Shortly after arriving, Chip and Dale come up. My son asks them if they want to join in a game of Charades. They shrugged their shoulders and then shook their heads yes. Chip & Dale played Charades immitating other Disney characters for over 30 minutes. My kids had the time of their lives.

Because this was our last day, we decided to leave the park with that being our last activity. Nothing could top that!

We walked into the AP lounge at EPCOT and Chip and Dale were also there. My two kids and two other girls had an uninterupted half hour playing with them while the adults relaxed. It was wonderful. We also had a lot of time with Mickey.

I don't know if this counts as far as characters go, but back in 1996 while we were eating outside at the brown derby, one of the street characters named Shelley B. Mayer came up to us and started a conversation.The four of us were the only ones there, and he carried on like he was on stage. He talked about Eisner,wdw,his "career" and a whole bunch of other stuff. He totally interacted with us on any subject we bought up. My brother in law has a beard and Shelly said, " Oh, I see you are traveling with Sebastion Cabot, I loved you as Mr. French!" He spent a good 15 to 20 minutes with us and had us in stitches. Fortunatley I had my video camera with me at the time and got it all on tape. As he was walking away from us at the completion of this "show", he saw a young man with one of the weird haircuts of the time, and said to him as he handed him some stage money, "here, get the rest of your hairs cut!" Best encounter we ever had at wdw.

A couple more more experiences I've had.

Around the time that Pocahontas was released into theaters I was over in the American Adventure when I saw Meeko and Gov. Ratcliffe signing autographs over in the garden area. I was watching them when a CM came up to me and asked if I wanted to meet Pocahontas. They took me to an area in the back where she was all alone- no line, no crowds! She gave me an autograph and asked if I had seen her movie yet and if I had liked it. She then taught me how to say "hello" in her own language just like she did with John Smith in the movie. After that I ran into Meeko who played with me for a while and then started making fun of Ratcliffe.

On my last visit to MK I was at Town Square in Main Street when I saw Belle by the the Disney Gallery. I asked her if she would like to pose for a picture for me, and see kindly agreed. Afterwards, Belle's assistant came up to me offered to take my picture with Belle. I told him I would appreciate it if it wasn't too much trouble and followed him back to her. When Belle saw me she smiled and said how nice it was to see me again. Her assistant told her that he was now taking a picture of Belle with me. At that she asked if she could take my arm. Her assistant reminded her to be sure to give it back.

Last May we were in EPCOT. It was hot and my DD2 was cranky but my DD6 still wanted to do some rides. So I took the cranky one to the AP lounge while my DH and DD6 went on rides, we waited for them there. It was wonderful. There were no other kids there and Chip and Dale came out and started playing with the Woody and Jesse toys with her. She was a little scared at first but warmed up quick. They played and colored for 30 mins or so. Then they went downstairs to the garden grill. About 10 mins later Mickey came out and she ran up to him and gave him a big kiss. He also played with her for a while. When my husband and other DD came back they decided they were hungry so we went to the garden grill to eat. Chip,Dale, and Mickey all recognized her from upstairs and came over and gave her a big kiss and gave hugs and kisses to my other DD. The CM with them said Olivia they missed you so much they had to come and see you again. My DH and DD6 were amazed .

On our honeymoon, my husband and I had a character lunch at MGM (now the Bear in the Big Blue House is in that location), and really didn't realize that it was a character lunch until we were seated. We got our food and sat down, and laughed at the characters interacting with everyone (this was my 1st character meal experience). Well, as DH and I were talking, Chip comes by, pats me on my head, and then points for me to look at something. I do, and he snags a biscuit and "eats" it. It was hilarious, and though I was many shades of red, it is something we laugh about 6 years later!

Wonderful thread - thanks to all who have posted!!

We were in France at Epcot - a group of about 9 extended family members and being pretty rowdy already. One of the girl mice from Cinderella spied my DS12 and came running up to him with outstretched arms for a hug. He took off running and she chased him!! We were all laughing so hard while she chased him through the courtyard and through a shop! She finally caught him (I think he LET her catch him) and gave him a kiss on the cheek and a big hug while I got a picture. His face was SO RED!

We make our own autograph book, each page a 4x6 index card with a picture of the character. I made one for every character, just in case we ran into them. On our first trip, somehow, my Mr. Smee card didn't get put in the sleeve, and sure enough we came across Mr. Smee with Captain Hook, and when he found out he had to sign Captain Hook's card because we didn't have one with his picture, he acted so terribly sad (and kept pretending to walk away) that my daughter (then 5) was close to tears and kept promising him we would have one next time.

Many of the characters do fun things when they see their picture -- kiss it, show it off to their handler, to my husband videotaping them, or to the rest of the line. . .

The Queen of Hearts knocked my son's cap off his head everytime he got near her; Meeko does the same thing, and steals stuff so the kids have to try and get it back.

This year the White Rabbit, Tweedledum, and Tweedledee were by the teacups. We had a Pluto Autograph Hound and our autograph book, so there was one character just standing around watching while the other two signed. When Tweedledum saw my husband videotaping and the other two were signing, he faced the camera, took his pen and shoved it up his "nose", swirled it around a bit, took it out and headed up to the lens of the camera with it, like he was wiping the pen off.

By the way, if you buy and autograph hound bring a sharpie permanent marker for signing. The Tweedles "spot" is upside down on Pluto's butt. Hercules and Meg always want to sign on his chest, so Herc was a bit put out with Dopey, because, as he said to Meg, "Dopey took my spot."

We've got a bunch more but those are the first ones that jumped to mind!

I do have a couple stories.
In May of 2000, my whole family (8 of us, total) went for ten days to WDW and it was a blast. While we were there at Cindy's breakfast, my single cousin around 50 years old, asked Prince Charming where his father was - you know because she needs a date - Prince Charming told her that his dad was with his mother!
LOL!
At the same breakfast, we saw Belle and my sister (25)'s friend, Heather, (28 years old) was a huge Beauty and Beast fan, having a bedroom in her house solely of B&B collector items worth $40k! So when she saw Belle, she was tearing up and we explained to Belle why this 28 year old woman was tearing up over her photo with Belle, so Belle took extra time at our table talking to Heather.
It was really sweet of Belle.

Another time during this trip we were at the Hunchback show in MGM (no longer running ) and at the end when the hunchback, Quazi came out to run down the stage, we noticed there was a mentally ******** boy sitting up front by the stage and he got very excited - jumping in and out of his seat, literally - when Quazi came out. Quazi actually stopped and bent down to shake his hand and ruffle his hair, which he normally wouldn't do at the end of the show. And then Quazi continued with the ending of the show. This boy was the only one he did this to and I know it made him feel special - it would me! I don't think there was a dry eye around, that saw that special moment and the look on that boy's face, when you think of the whole meaning of the Hunchback's story and the relation to the boy.

To celebrate my DD's 5th birthday we took her to WDW, a first for all of us. I had started planning it a year in advance and had all the great PS's lined up including breakfast at CRT on her birthday. The day before, we had breakfast at 1900 Park Fare where she met Aladdin, among others. He spent a good deal of time talking with her, and of course she shared that the next day was her birthday, to which he asked what she was going to do to celebrate her birthday. I told him that she had a special surprise in store for her birthday, which I had to get up very early for 60 days ago! He grinned and knew exactly what I was talking about, and he told her she was going to love her birthday surprise.

The next morning we arrived for her surprise birthday breakfast with Cinderella, and guess who was there - Aladdin! He remembered her name and wished her a happy birthday as soon as he saw us. Even though I had told them ahead of time that it was her birthday, nothing special had been done, and he scurried around and got things moving, bringing her a special birthday cupcake, telling all the characters it was her birthday, and they all presented her with a special birthday card and Millenium Moment Certificate signed by all the characters there. He asked if we were going to go to the parade that afternoon, and I said that we had already seen the parade and probably wouldn't. He looked at me very sternly and said, "I think it would be a very good idea for you to go today!"

Well, because he said this, we camped out and got a great spot curbside for the afternoon parade. And guess who was in the parade - Aladdin again! He shouted my daughter's name and said Happy Birthday! With that all the characters and castmembers around focused on her and started wishing her a happy birthday. He kept turning back and waving to her, even after the float had passed. It was an incredibly magical birthday for our daughter. Needless to say, she is in love with Aladdin now!

But my favorite is when we went to an e-ride night in March two year ago. My kids were the only ones with the characters. We watched Mickey and Minnie run towards each other than "neck" with Mickey falling over at the end. The best part for my kids was getting to wrestle with Chip and Dale. The chipmunks were actually down on the ground rolling around with my three kids. My kids still tell people about when they got to wrestle with Chip and Dale.

We were at the MK in November 2001 and I had my (then) 2 year old DD's silhouette done in Liberty Square. The man who does them (he was still there in January 2003) is not "Mr. Personality", but he does a really nice job. We bought 2 of the frames and my DD couldn't keep her hands off of them. The back of one of them was rough and she cut her finger . Luckily, we were very close to the first aid center, so I carried her over sobbing all the way.

The nurses were very effecient and comforting. They put us into a small room and I sat my DD on the examining table. Another nurse came in to look at the cut. She then said, "Someone is here to see you." and in walked Mickey! Mickey held my DD's other hand while she had her cut bandaged. I was almost crying myself it was so sweet.

During our last trip in Dec/Jan my DD talked all about needing a bandaid and having Mickey help her .

Last March we went to Disney with the girls. Hannah was 2 and a half and Julia was about 11 months old. It was the first trip where Hannah really "knew" where she was and who she was seeing. It was about the time she started watching the Disney movies and Cinderella was her favorite. She had cinderella everything including the little doll. So when we got to the world the first thing we had to do was meet Cinderella. So we went to Toon Town and into the meeting pavillon. When Hannah got into that room with Cinderella, let me tell you, it brought tears to my eyes! It was empty in the meet and greet area, so only 2 other families went in with us. We purposely went to the mice first so the other 2 families could see Cinderella first. When it was Hannah's turn, you could see the look of admiration in her eyes for Cinderella. Cinderella totally noticed this too and she really spent time talking to Hannah and it was funny to see a 2 1/2 year old so in aw. When Hannah snuggled into her lap for a picture, Cinderella gave her a kiss on the cheek leaving lipstick marks. Then she whispered "I love you princess Hannah". Hannah could NOT stop talking about that the rest of the day, she made us take a photo of her "kiss".

Another special story I thought of, was when my sister used to work at Hollywood & Vine in MGM, through a college program, she told me how once a child left their autograph book in their restaurant, but luckily there was an address and name in there. So she used her connections and roommates to gather as many real character autographs as possible in the book and then mailed it back to the child, fuller than when the child lost it. I thought that was a very sweet thing to do. My sister also said that her and her fellow wait staff at Hollywood & Vine would often ask the children who came into the restuarant for their autograph, they really got a kick out of that!
I thought it would be good to share some of the special moments that the cast members bring as well as the characters.

I have a couple of short favorite interactions:

1. Snow White choose my daughter for a special conversation... she kept her much longer than the other children and seemed to really be enjoying her. DD was 6 at the time, it was so sweet and so special.

2. Recently, Sir Foulfellow tried to sneak off from the BWI lobby with my children. He was really in to it and I had to "convince" him that I loved my children and would miss them if he took them off to the donkey island. It was funny!

3. Also, a thumbs up for CM's who look past the parents and talk directly to the kids, that really can make their day!

We were in Micky's Toon town fair and went down the side to see Cinderella. Well we ended up being that last ones there after everyone else took their pictures. They didn't open the door, so Cinderella took a lot of time with my daughter. They talked up a storm. Then she asked my daughter if she wanted to sit in her lap, and Jazmine (my daughter said) I can't you don't have a chair (3 year olds and their logic). So, Cinderella spread out her dress with the help of her CM and sat down on the floor. We have pictures and video of my DD sitting in her lap. We have poses of them looking at each other and my favorite is cheek to cheek. She will never forget that day.

My son's favorite is when Jafar made a big stink because I wouldn't get in the picture with DD and DS. Everyone got in on it. The Queen of Hearts and Gov. J. Ratcliffe. I was so embarassed! To keep me from running away, Jafar has a hand on my head and is laughing with his head back. I LOVE DISNEY!!!!!

In 2000 our family went and my brother took his best friend. My brother and his friend are both about 6 feet. They went up to meet Tigger at MGM and Tigger acted "afraid" of them because he saw two 2 age boys coming to meet him. So my brother and his friend tried to make peace by acting nice. So Tigger gave in and the next thing we know Tigger and my brother and his friend are doing the chorus line w/Tigger in the middle! It was soo funny seeing Tigger and 2 teenage boys doing the chorus and being in sync as well!
