We are going in September for DHs bday (day 1) through my mom's bday (day 6). I read on another thread that you don't have to use the card on your bday? or just not in the park (DTD instead)? Also does anyone know if there are restrictions for what you can't use it on. I looked on DLRs website but the legal jargon just made my eyes spin. LOL

From what I could figure out is you just can't use it on food.

Also this is what I got from a CM when I called about having a 3-day pass for my friends birthday this weekend she said that as long as the 3 (or longer)-day pass has been activated before their birthday they will be able to get the "fun card". (example we are going this friday and her bday is saturday so the ticket is already activated) So if the first day is their birthday they may not get the fun card.

Hope this helps.

Okay, first, you don't get to pick admission vs. a Fun Card. If you do not already have valid admission of some form (AP, multi-day pass) on your actual birthday, you will be given free admission. :yay:

Second, IF you already will have valid admission (you mentioned being there for a few days so I am guessing you will), you can select an alternate birthday gift (free, admission ticket good for 1 day within the coming year, fun card, or fast passes).

The Fun Card does not expire and you cannot get change back.

Some key can and cannot use tips:
- You can use it at DL, DCA, or select shops iin DtD (like WoD). There are some shops in DL that are NOT owned by Disney. They do not accept the Fun Card. (Ex: The Crystal Shop)
- You can use it toward buying/upgrading an AP.
- You cannot use it towards a hotel bill.
- You cannot use it on food (as in dining), but you CAN use it on food merchandise (like pre-packaged candy from the candy store).

Full details are here, but I am guessing that's the legalese you were referring to. :wizard:

P.S. Welcome to DIS!

When I booked they said I could bring my vacation package paperwork (that included the hopper passes) and get an alternative bday gift. They were full aware that DHs bday was on day one. CMs are very chatty! LOL I will check again. I re-read the bday card restrictions and it looked like only non-Disney affiliated stores/vendors, midway games, and outdoor vendors were not eligible. I will read it again regarding ALL food.

ETA: Okay found the food thing...hidden amongst the DCL info.

This is correct, but DH needs to activate his PH before claiming his Fun Card. It's just a matter of what has to be done first in order for all the pieces to fall into place. :goodvibes

I put in an online request for more info. I had thought we had to use the card ON that day, so I'm excited to hear we don't. I can always fake stupidity and go back after we activate our PH to get the fun card.

The very first few days of the promotion, the Fun Card had to be used ON your birthday. Disney then discovered it was illegal in CA for the Fun Card to have an expiration date... so, it doesn't now. :goodvibes

DD, when you say "activate" his parkhopper, what do you mean? If they got a package through WDTC, AAA, Costco...they'll have tickets. I'm sure there are plenty of people coming in on their first day which is their birthday. I doubt he'd have to go into the parks and then get the funcard...

3Minnies1Mickey, what more info did you ask them for? There's a big thread about the b'day promo here where the author has contacted them, we've got at least one CM chiming in...we've got the info you need, LOL. As DD said, the funcard doesn't expire now. Let me go find the big thread and bump it up for you.

Well that's interesting! I wonder where caramel apples, tigger tails, ice cream, etc fall in there. i.e. are they dining-food or food merchandise?

Well... you have to have a valid ticket on the date of your birthday in order to get the gift and not the ticket. So... wouldn't it not be a ticket for that date until after you enter the gate? I have never used a package for DL tickets, but I don't believe they are dated tickets, right? So I was just saying that her DH should activate his ticket first so he can get the Fun Card. :wizard:

Some here posted using theirs for a Tigger Tail, amongst other stuff. So that would be merchandise. I don't know for a fact on the others, but I would think caramel apples would be the same. Ice cream, hmmm... idk. :wizard:

I found the old thread. It looks like I can use the PH to get in and get the fun card at City Hall. Yeah us!

Those would be food merchandise ;) You can use the card for the snacky things in the stores, but not in restaurants or snack carts. So ice cream from a cart of Gibson Girl ice cream?? No. Tigger tail or caramel apple from Pooh Corner? Yes (and I did). Bag of Mickey pretzels and peanut butter cookie from the store in DCA?? Yes!!!

Yep! This is right. We get our 10% Premium AP discount on food merch (Tigger Tails, caramel apples, etc), not the 15% like you do for actual food.

Awesome! I love stuff from Pooh Corner. I'm planning to buy a couple of those raspberry white chocolate chip cookies during my next visit.

Can I use both my Annual Pass (for a discount) and my Fun card to purchase goodies there?

Yep! Your AP will apply the discount and your fun card will be used to pay for the purchase.
