Thankfully I have my TS ressies in place for next week ... I may have added a few more but is near impossible to get ANYTHING at this point.

With the lack of walk in seating that seems to be available I wonder what would happen if someone on the DDP was UNABLE to use those credits? I mean thank goodness I kinda know what I am doing because you really are not given any information about the plan ahead of time. I didn't even get a list of places we could go ... I believe they give you this at check in ... a little late if you don't know the deal!

Imagine if you are on the DDP ... no ADR's because no information is sent to you ahead of time ... and you walk into the MK to be greeted by a sign that sais all the table service places are full for the day and to please enjoy the counter service places??

AAAAK!

Am I the only one that thinks this is C R A Z Y? I can't imagine that something won't have to change soon.

Crazy maybe, but one should do their reserach.

The policy is available at the WDW site as are the restaurants that participate. allearsnet.com is also readily accessible.

But, yeah! I feel bad for those that don't do their research.

Disney experimented with opening up a temporary buffet restaurant in Adventureland is is rumored to be doing the same using the Diamond Horseshoe.

Just because the theme park restaurants are fully booked doesn't mean guests are out of luck. Restaurants like Spoodles, Yacht Club Gallery and even Kona frequently have last minute ADRs available.

They used El Pirata y el Perico. It's too bad that it was temporary, it was very good!

The Dining Plan brochure, readily available on the official web site, states in LARGE type that advanced dining reservations are strongly recommended. This was an update to the first brochure, but it is very clear.
I would be very unhappy if I purchased the plan and could not find an ADR for a TS meal. But at the same time, I planned in advance, searched the official web site for information on the plan, as well as here on the DIS, so that would not happen to us.

Also, every hotel confirmation I got last trip included the note "Disney restaurants are very popular and reservations are recommended"

The plan materials also say you are SOL if you don't take advantage of the plan because you didn't plan (I believe they say something like "not responsible for......(lots of stuff), non-dining due to limited capacity" or something.

We took a last minute trip in Nov. Booked less than 2wks before arrival. We purchased the DDP. I immediately started looking for ADRs. Not a lot of luck, most everything was booked.Since they still offered it for sale I assumed I would be able to use it. Not so!

Well on such short notice you would not have been able dine at the most popular places regardless of the plan.

But I am sure you could still get more than your moneys worth with the available(even walk up) choices.

There are many Sleepers that you can walk up to at most times/days and get a seat.

We did GF cafe on one of our open nights, and would do it again if we had no ADR elsewhere.

If you find yourself in the MK with a DDP but no ADRs you're just SOL! :rotfl:

I get MK, DDP and ADRs but what the heck is SOL??????? I am going to try and get the DDP and make ADrs but its going to be difficult to do this from the UK. All the restaurants cant be completly booked up all the time can they?

SOL stands for s*** outta luck. :teeth:

There's an ADR cancellation thread in this forum... I'd check there and see if anybody is getting ready to cancel one that you could use. Or, just keep calling back and hope for reservations.

Bottom line there is ALWAYS an opening at some TS restaurant, just possibly not the one someone wants. That's the breaks. Just like staying onsite during major holidays--yes, you are guaranteed admission to a theme park, but it might not be the park of your choice.

I just called Sat. and added California Grill for Fri., Artist Point for Sat., and Coral Reef for a late lunch on Mon. for this week.

I think you just have to be flexiable, but I am not on the meal plan.

we were in the world during the free dining promotion... lots of popular restaurants were booked for peak times... we had to do some shuffling of our ADRs due to various things (including rain one night and just being tired and not wanting to schlep from our resort to world showcase just for dinner like we thought we'd want to) and i called to cancel and book a diff't ADR for that night or switch some around and had minimal problem... got one of our best meals as a walk-in w/no wait at boatwright's at POR... most of the resort restaurants (esp non-monorail) are able to accommodate last minute ADRs as are some of the less popular theme park restaurants (i.e. mexico and china)... you won't starve at wdw w/the ddp... you just have to either do a little research or take your chances! :flower:
