I am taking my 3 yr old niece to Disney in September and am wondering if it's true that small children pay the same price as adults?

Thanks!

I think it may depend on the airline and what type of fare you are purchasing but if you are getting the "cheapest" fare then yes you will end up paying the same price. DD and I fly a lot but I always am looking for the cheapest fare and have yet to get a break on her ticket.

That's right. The only discount I've ever seen was for children under 2 years old. I always bought my DDs seats under 2 and I always got 50% off. But I've never seen any discount for over 2 years old.

Once they reach age 2 they must have a separate seat, so the answer is yes. However, you shouldn't ever be paying "full price" for anyone of any age on a vacation trip; only people who don't buy tickets in advance pay full price.

Get the best discount fare that you can, and book it for your entire party.

If the airline does discount a fare for children it is off the most expensive fare. So, you will find that you save quite a bit of money by just buying the discounted seat for the entire group.

Just an FYI...That was not the case for us.

First, I checked the rates with Orbitz or Travelocity and at the actual airline website that I want to fly with so I knew what the best fare was for that airline and then when I was ready to book it, I went through Expedia.com because they will do the child discount fare online (rather then having to call the airline themselves) and the 50% off was off the fare price I was already quoted at the other websites I had already checked (airline website, Orbitz etc...).

I've gotten the 50% off rate (for children under 2) with Delta and American through Expedia.com.

I agree, though, that I would never pay full price for airfare just to get 50% off the kid's fare.

Children 2 and over will pay the same price as the adult.
Children under 2 can either be a lap child or have their own seat for 50% off.
Gone are the days of childrens fares and senior citizen fares.
