Hi, i've just got off thephone to virgin, obtaining a quote for next year and was told the fuel surcharge is set to jump from 48.00 to 60.00 as of tommorrow.I had no idea,it all can add up for families.Thought i'd let those who don't know all ready, know.

does anyone know if this goes up even if you have already booked?

Susan

If you have booked AND PAID for the tickets then no, the price you have paid is what you are charged for fuel surcharge. if the Government imposes and extra tax then that is different.

If you have booked but not paid the outstanding sum, then AFAIK you have to pay the surchage

BA have already increased their surcharge to £60 a long haul round trip (and are going to start to charge an on line booking fee as well!)

How unfair is that! You do the whole thing yourself, without taking the time of an advisor, and they charge you for the trouble?? Most airlines give a discount for booking online if anything. It's all going to start adding up though isn't it.

I can understand the fuel charge - all airlnes charge it! but an online booking fee? Considering for Orlando Virgin are BA's closest competitors and the offer an online booking discount and will usually match any price you find elsewhere. I know BA have had lots of problems but is this really the way to win back customers?

I can't find any information about whether the extra fuel charge will apply to new bookings or existing ones. I've got a sneaky feeling that it will apply to all outstanding bookings so looks like I'm going to have to pay the increase! :confused3

have you paid in full? if so, then no, you will not have to pay the increase

I'm not really interested in all of the seperated charges for my holiday as I'm only focussing upon the final figure. With TCD you get charged fuel supplement, ASL and booking fee but overall they usually work out the cheapest. Its purely down to airline marketing trying to say 'We're not the bad boys here...look at all of these compulsory charges etc etc'. Lets not lose sight of the fact that your average Virgin flier is going to have to fork out only £12 extra, often on a holiday costing 50 times this!

btw.....TCD fuel supplement is only £30 return not each way at the moment. I'm sure it can't be the same quality fuel as Virgin though..... ;-)

well, as they seem to cut corners everywhere else, it could be the difference of Virgin Premium unleaded and TCD City Unleaded :earsboy: (yes, I know they run on parrafin!)
the average Virgin flyer is not going to be looking at the possibility of 24 hour delays due to lack of available aircraft either, plus those of us with children under 3 can go Upper class wheras the cheap (in all senses of the word) TCD sunshine first they cannot, (and even worse in Sunshine premium with a 6 year old limit, isnt WDW for children???) plus 3 X 32 Kg of luggage against a "huge" 40Kg luggage allowance on TCD, no clubhouse, the list goes on.
Oh, and the big fact of course, Virgin fly every day AND you can fly for however many days you want, not be restricted to 7. 14 or 21 days only

does this mean each member of the family/party has to pay 60 quid each??

I have to agree, no disrespect to TCD but i did find so many more issues with them than with Virgin! One problem we had was no one wanted to drive but TCD said we had to have the car, no way of not having it when you book online!! Whats the point in having a car if no one can drive?

Hey Obi, I think the tongue in cheek bit here passed you by......

Thought folks would find it interesting to note that I had my tickets paid in full at the end of July this year. Scheduled to fly out on 15th October. I received a letter via travel agent saying we would have to pay a surcharge of £15.00 per adult.

Personally I think this is terrible. Not the extra money but the principle. Letter says that they can cancel the booking if the fee is not paid.

Travel agent also enclosed a letter from ABTA which backs their right to do so.

My tickets with Virgin have been booked since June and I have not had any request for fuel surcharges.
its either that the travel agent has not paid the money to the holiday company until now so that you are liable for extra surcharges, or they are pulling a fast one.
what does the T & c say in the booking part of the brochure?

my tickets were booked with Virgin since last september andd we havent been asked to pay an extra. Who did you book with?

Has anyone been asked to pay extra by TCD on part or full paid bookings ?
:confused3

We are due to fly next Feb and have only part paid - now I'm getting worried about potential extra charges ! :worried: :worried:
