Fuel Supplement Charge

I spoke with another manager and he just stated what the first told me basically I have to wait until 2 weeks before my cruise but I will be watching this thread if anyone gets a different answer i'll be calling back.

I'm surprised what someone got the $$ back for the June date I am worn out from the two phone calls that I don't have the energy to call back and try again if they did allow that.

Jan 2010 will be our last DCL trips. unless they make this right .

Hey everyone! I got good news! At first I was told about the OBC thing, and that I possibly might not get it. I am sailing in October 2010. But, my TA called them back, cancelled my existing reservation and immediately rebooked it, and I saved $150!! She automatically did this for my friend's family who is sailing with us as well, without even contacting my friend. I suggest you look into this!

I'll take the OBC, my DW will end up spending it in the gift shops anyways :rotfl2: :lmao: :rotfl:

Thanks guys

I read this her and on my cruise meet
I got my hubby to tel them to rebook then cancel our 2010 cruise, they then tried to tell him he might get the obc, he said I would rather just sort it now, she went away then returned to say they would just adjust our due amount minus the fuel supplement!!and we did not have to cancel and rebook to get the fuel suppl off, cool, every little helps as they say on telly here in the uk!

aloha,
Just got off with DCL and told them that I notice someone who has a cruise in June 2009 got their fuel charges taken off. I was wondering if my res in Dec 2009 can my fuel charges be taken off also. She said they could not do it until Sept of 2009 because they don't know what the fuel prices will be yet.
I told her the person who is sailing in June can get their fuel charges taken off 6 month in advance but I have to wait until 3 months prior to my sailing to find out if the charges will taken off! I told her that wasn't fair. She told me she would talk to her supervisor. In a few minutes she returned an told me the charges would be taken off and gave me the new amount. I told her thank you for all her help.
It pays to be persistant yet pleasant with DCL agents.
Prior to this I called DCL an talk to another agent who was not very helpful. She just said nothing could be done until 3 months prior to sailing. Just goes to show that if you talk to another agent they might be more helpful the the previous one.
They just took the surcharge off without saying that it would be turned into an OBC.
Hope everyone can get their surcharge off. :thumbsup2

We set sail on Saturday!!! That is the good news, the bad news is that the supervisor that I spoke with did not sound to promising to receive OBC's. I explained that I do not have the luxury of canceling and rebooking like others that are traveling next year or later. Also explained to her that the reason that they are considering dropping it is due to the oil prices TODAY!!! Which happen to be the lowest in 3 years!!! To top it off, she refused to discuss anything further with me because I booked thru a TA!!! I paid for the trip and she won't discuss the reservation with me! Anyway, she said that she would "look into it" and call my TA on Tuesday. I thanked her and told her that I would be waiting on the edge of my seat...

On the other hand...

We leave in 3 days!!!!!!:cool1: :woohoo:

We booked our Jan 25th sailing on March 10th. This was before they added fuel surcharges, right? So I think we never actually paid the surcharge... so no obc, right?:confused3

I just called DCL. I got a great agent. No arguing necessary. She took of my fuel supplement and I was done within 2 minutes. HOORAY! We are sailing the 6/13 in a cat. 12. 6 of us in two rooms for under $4200 including all taxes.

I am so glad that I came across this thread. Give them a call. You CAN have it taken off of your account.

Wait a minute ... didn't Disney say that if oil trades below $70/barrel for 30 days that they would automatically remove the surcharge and credit the cruiser with an OBC? Did I dream that they said that initially?

Now they're saying that it depends upon when you cruise? That it doesn't matter that oil trades below $70 for 30 days, but if it trades below $70 at some undetermined (and inconsistent) time before your cruise?

I can't cancel and rebook as we have suites lined up for 4/2009 and 9/2010. I know the fuel supplement isn't much compared to the cost of that, but still. Ticks me off that someone could book today without any charge, and we're still paying it.

you are not cruising till next June and they took it off??? They are telling me NO WAY NO HOW right now on the phone. I am SOOOOOOOOOOOO frustrated!

I am right there with you. They are FRUSTRATING me to NO END right now!

My TA from DU told me to wait it out for a while as Disney seems to be changing policy as the day was going. I do not want to take the chance of canceling and re-booking and losing my SPH room. I am also not sure as to what would happen with the insurance as I recently purchased. So I'll wait and see what happens:surfweb:

I just want to assure anyone who is waiting to hear from DU concerning their cruise that we are working with DCL on this and will let you know what we find out.

Like you we are getting conflicting information.

I want to caution folks from cancelling a current reservation to rebook if the price difference is not at least the same amount as the fuel surcharge. For example if the price of your cruise goes up by $100.00 and the fuel charge is $213.00 then it will look like you will be saving $113.00 when actually if you let DCL give you the OBC you will save $213.00 when the fuel charge is removed. In addition, DCL is saying they reserve the right to add the fuel surcharge back in if they decide they need to - so you could wind up paying more overall if that happens.

I am surprised that they haven't thought this through better but hopefully tomorrow we will have a better picture of how they intend to handle this.

I like this thread, lots of ideas floating back and forth. For me, our cruise is October 2010. The surcharge is there but we have only paid the deposit. I'll wait before pushing the panic button.

THANK YOU!!!! I will be keeping an eye on the boards the next day or so before contacting Dream Unlimited regarding a current booking. I did notice that the price has gone down around 400.00 for our 11-night Med booking on DCL website.

I just got off the phone with DCL as I'm cruising on the Magic on 1/10/09. I was told to check back with DCL on 12/18/08 to find out whether DCL will give us an OBC. The DCL rep quoted the standard language as in previous posts. When I told her that I first heard about this issue on the DIS Boards, she laughed and said to not believe things I read on the DIS???!!! :rotfl: I told her that the most valuable information I have received for the past 7 years has come from the DIS Boards. She didn't say any more......

They are not huge fans of the DIS boards. I am thankfuul for the DIS boards! They would have never told me about the fuel surcharge!

I'm so glad I posted this last night. I'm glad that it's helping some of you. I really hope that they do the right thing and waive the fuel surcharge for us December cruisers who paid it.

I also remember that they said something about if oil is below $70 per barrel for 30 days they would discontinue it but I didn't remember anything about the 1st day of the quarter statement. I'm guessing it was in there somewhere, but who knows?!
