Fuel Supplement Charge

Does anyone know what the fuel charges are with DCL? I'm trying to figure out exactly how much I paid in fuel costs. Is it listed in my reservation?
***Edited*** The previous post just answered my question.....

It was not listed on my confirmation. I knew it was about 175$ for 2 adults and 2 children for June 13th 2009.

The other thing that gets me SOOOOOOOOO mad is that the price of fuel has to stay below $70 for 2 consecutive quarters. I asked if it goes to $71 on one of those day do we lose the OBC, she said yes!!! Now that just kills me bc we could be paying $490 of fuel surcharge bc one day in about 120 days it went about $70 while the rest of the cruise pays NOTHING extra for fuel!!!!! How crazy is that!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

That is the first time I heard 2 quarters as a threshold. I hope you are wrong on that, but it sure would benefit DCL.

I think the most customer friendly way to deal with the price issue is this:

With the volatility in the market a better way to compute fuel surcharge threshold would be a 30-60 day average instead of being tied to the end of day price. With that methodology a 1 or 2 day price spike will not reinstate the surcharge.

Hey Folks,

Just wanted to share the last email I got from DCL, I just had to pressure them a little bit and they removed the Fuel Surcharge from my reservation. FYI I am sailing in September 2009. I wish I hadn't needed to pressure them, but I have to say that I am so glad to see that the legendary Disney Service is still alive.:thumbsup2 :thumbsup2 . Hope this helps.

Maybe a better way for DCL to handle this was to keep charging the Fuel Surcharge to new bookings, and then refund at the time of cruise by on ship credit if the fuel prices are below the level they determined to everybody on ship that had paid the surcharge. This would at least avoid people on the same cruise being treated differently. I realize DCL wants to keep its option open if oil prices go up (which they certainly can, as we have all seen in these volatile markets over the past year), but they have created problems by treating people of the same cruise differently.

They are taking a small group of people who booked for 2010 and holding there money hostage just in case fuel prices go up.

They aren't holding our money hostage! We all paid a deposit, and it doesn't include the fuel surcharge. That won't need to be paid until final payment, a few months before the cruise, IF it is still being charged. If there is still a need for a fuel surcharge, we will all have to pay it. If not, the worst that will happen is that it will be an onboard credit.

A lot can happen between now and Summer of 2010. It's certainly not worth losing sleep over now...

I just want to make sure I've read all this correctly. We are sailing in May of 09 and was charged for the fuel supplement. Does this mean that we will be getting an onboard credit now or do we have to call to get it? We are only sailing for 4 days so the way I have my credit figured its $88.00. Thats at least a t-shirt a piece the way i see it.

I have a December 6th sailing on the Magic. I checked the current prices now, and they are not charging the fuel supplement, but a few weeks ago when I booked it, I was charged the supplement for 2 adults as $112.00

I called DCL and they said the OBC does not apply until those sailing after December 18th. Am I completely out of luck??? It seems really unfair that new bookings would not be charged and yet I was just a few weeks ago and those that booked farther out than me!!!

I believe the real issue here is that Disney is not charging anyone booking today a fuel surcharge, nor will they should one get reinstated. (do I have that correct?) So if that is the case,, why would we want to wait until our cruise to see what happens, I would rather have it taken off now. If that is not the case, then waiting isn't much of an issue. I for one can not rebook because I booked the last Cat 3 on the ship and I don't want to take a chance to lose it. Disney now has $3,200 of my "non refundable" deposit and I'm kind of stuck

DCL purchases their fuel in a contract for x amount of months / barrels at a certain price. They probably chose the dates they are based on when they started paying the lower price for fuel

I understand everyone's concern but when the reservation was booked and deposited you agreed to the terms at that time. If the cruise price is still the same as when first booked. DCL is letting people take off the fuel surcharge on future bookings. They just aren't doing it if the price has increased for your sail date and category. I don't know what the reason for that is but I am sure there is one

When fuel surcharges were first started in late 2007, there was a lawsuit in Florida against both of the major cruise companies - Royal Carribean Int'l and Carnival Corp. - because they had made it retroactive. They lost, and anyone who had deposited by the first day of the FS did not have to pay. They said it would be given back in the form of an OBC, but when I made final payment on a Celebrity Solstice cruise for January 2009, it had been removed from the total due.

Since then, RCI and CC have included language in their contracts that allows them to add a fuel surcharge if it starts again. I would be surprised if Disney hasn't done that also.

Maybe someone who has rebooked without the FS now can check the fine print.... It would be nice if we could get the answer from MS, but we know that depends on the CM that you talk to!

I am pretty sure the price has not gone up on the cruise I am on in a few days. I know I did agree to the terms at the time, but I still think its unfair that those booking just a few days after me do not have to pay. Has anyone gotten the fuel surcharge taken off that is sailing before December 18??

I am expecting to be out of luck, but just trying to grasp at some straws before giving up. LOL

Michelle, that is the way I understand it as well. My original arguement was that DCL is anticipating that the fuel will not cost as much for the December sailings or they would not have removed it for the new December bookings. They have deviated from their own policy by removing it for those new bookings prior to the December 18th fuel price review. Again, if they are going to deviate from the policy and remove it from the new bookings they should remove it from all people sailing on those cruises. The policy should be uniformly applied.

It apparently won't matter to me since they are going to review for the December 18th sailing (ours) so I should just shut up about it, but I'm still irritataed for those of you who are sailing before the 18th and feel that a policy that is not appropriately applied is problematic.

My only thought on the matter & I have a suite booked for the Baltic & Repo cruise in 2010, is that Disney has 2 new ships coming in 2011 which will give them 4 ships by 2012!

Supply will not be as restricted and I will remember now, how we are treated on this issue!:headache:

I have cruised RCCL and found them an exceptable replacement though at present I continue to prefer DCL.

Hopefully the Executive in charge of this matter will come to His/Her senses & refund the fuel surcharge on all pre booked cruises.

Also with oil now below $50 a barrel now would be a good time to lock in there fuel on the futures market!

Just my 2 cents!

I spoke with my TA and emailed DCL. We sail December 14th on the Wonder. I will not receive an OBC for the $216 fuel surcharge ( 3 cabins booked). Yes, we lose.

I haven't read the entire thread, so I don't know what problems people are or aren't having with the fuel surcharge issue.
All I can say is that my cruise is in Oct/Nov 2009, I called up DCL (res was directly with them), and without hassle the fuel surcharge amount was taken off of my remaining balance.
No fighting with them
No getting it back as an OBC
No issues at all.

I just printed off a copy of the terms and conditions from the DCL website (the one where you have to check the box in order to proceed with your booking). As of right now they don't have anything in there that speaks specifically to the fuel surchage BUT the do have the following:

TERMS SUBJECT TO CHANGE
Disney Cruise Vacations reserves the right to change all prices and other terms and conditions which appear on this website without prior notice. Price changes wll not affect bookings with timely final payment, except where the increase results from increases in Government Taxes and Fees.

The way I read this is that they in fact can add a fuel surcharge to any reservation that is not already paid in full.
